Subject: Rain Models For Poser - A Question

I'm going to show you the three promo pictures from a package of 20 stormy rain models that will appear in the Marketplace sometime next week. These models are in *.3ds file format - they all load and work fine in Bryce, Vue, et. al. But, because of their large number of vertices, they will load into Poser 4 only in *.obj file format. However, they do import just fine and look pretty decent, even in P4. Unfortunately, when these 20 models are in *.obj format, the total zipped package comes to about 58 MB. (There also is a 2 MB fully illustrated User Guide. Its not easy making static 3d models of something dynamic like rain.) So, my question is - is it worthwhile to post these models for Poser people? Presumably, anyone who wants them would ask for them to be cut to a CD. The price for these 20 models is only $14.00 USD - it seems to me that there ought to be high quality boats and rain for cheap. So, counting the CD cost, few would go broke if they bought them. But, I don't know if any Poser people are likely to want these.

Pic3 This package includes very basic models of light, medium and heavy rain falling vertically from the sky, models of slanted rain, windblown rain, falling rain that is bouncing back up up from umbrellas and low objects near the ground, two special rain models made so that you can shoot a scene through them (Pic 2) , rainwater dripping from rooflines, raindrops beaded on flat surfaces such as windowpanes (this Pic3), and a small sheet of raindrop rings for the ground or waterbody.

If anyone wants a package like this for Poser while I'm trying to determine whether to market it here or not, just send me a note to sprucefir@earthlink.net

I would love a package like this for Poser Seems it would be easier if once purchased we were able to download 3 or 4 smaller files instead of one huge one

This is great. I would also love this for Poser and Vue. Sharen

A suggestion: chop it up into 3 packages of abot 20MB each - gets you under the max size in the MP. Charge $5 or $6 for each. :] Fish

That's alot more convincing rain than I've seen. Price is reaonable. Since it's in obj format I'm assuming it's scaleable?

I must remember to remember what it was I had to remember.

I'd want it! I'd prefer Poser format to 3ds or vob. I'm patient enough to wait for a CD, but most folks would probably rather get it in smaller chunks (download time). If on a CD, would all 3 formats be included? Most of us see rain as streaks, unless a camera freezes the drops, but the drops can make neat magical effects, too. I'm just not sure of seeing both at the same time. This is incredibly realistic, though. :) Can you post an image of water rings? Carolly

This is the great thing about this particular Forum. It is useful. If a person has a product and a question, one can get some really good advice here. Thank all of your for your comments! After reviewing these, and also those where people e-mailed a note to me, I've concluded that the Poser version of this package should go out as a CD. This will make room for a few more rain models that I'd left out due to the overall product size, and it still will be inexpensive. So, this product will be available in approximately two weeks - depending upon how much time the Renderosity staff requires for product shipment and review. The product will appear in *.3ds format in Renderosity soon. Please do not purchase that version if you are a Poser user. The CD will contains the models in *.obj format, *.3ds format, *.vob format.Perhaps some other formats as well. Thank you, again!

Sorry for the typing errors. Ring picture coming soon, hauksdottir

Thanks! :) By the time a person has their city laid out and populated and propped (I'm thinking of those rainy paintings of Montmartre) or has the boat manned with costumed figures hauling at the shrouds, or even has the broken-down car parked by the lonely road near a castle showing one lighted window over the gloomy forest... the CD ought to be in their mailbox. Scenes take time to plan and build. Of course, now that we'll have decent rain, we'll need authentic water-spitting gargoyles to carry it away from the walls! The lighthouse over on Marin (Pt Benito?) has functioning gargoyles. I think I need another cup of coffee... I just thought of a gargoyle on break with umbrella and steaming mug of cocoa! Carolly

Yes, it must be that you need a break! LOL!

Almost missed them, didn't know they had been released. But downloading them now.

I must remember to remember what it was I had to remember.

This package (currently available in the Bryce and Vue Marketplaces) works in Poser Version 6. If you wish a version that works in Poser Versions 4 or 5, please make an arrangement with me directly at sprucefir@earthlink.net. My apologies for this, but by the time Renderosity takes 2/3'ds of the price of a CD that is only $14.00, it is not cost effective for me to broker the Poser 4 and 5 versions of this package here. Plus, you will pay Renderosity an additional sum past the $14 to have the CD burned. So, since you will pay over $20 and I will receive about $5 of that, this doesn't seem like a good deal for either you or me. So, if you want this product for Poser 4 or 5, just drop me an e-mail.
