Subject: Using the Complementary Colour for Specular Highlight ?

Hi, An Instructor recently told me that one should use the complementary colour for specular highlights on skin / organic material whenever possible. My problem though is that using any shade of blue increases the Blue tone in my skin and makes it a bit off real skin(Which I assume to be R-200, G-160, B-140). Where am I going wrong? What colours do you use for highlights? And should the specular falloff be set to Frensel or to distance from camera? Thanks

The complementary colour for specular highlights is not necessary, it sounds like an arty thing like making shadows the complementary colour of the lights that a lot of artists have used but it doesn`t usually happen in real life.
