Subject: The slowest Renderosity has ever been

wyrwulf ( ) posted Wed, 15 June 2005 at 12:40 PM · edited Sat, 15 February 2025 at 3:01 AM

It's taking over a minute for each clicked page to load. 1800+ online, 10:30 AM Pacific, using cable internet. Every other site I've been to loads fast like it should. Edit to add: The speed varies from slug to rocket minute by minute with no apparent reason.

Hi wyrwulf, Tim did do some "tweaking" earlier in the week and it seemed to help for a little while but now things have seemed to slow down again. I will get with Tim again and let him know so we can get this issue resolved. Thanks Stacey

Stacey,

There have been several messages in the Poser Forum this week about the slowness. Doc Geep was even to the point of leaving.
I sometimes can't even get to the forums, while other parts of the site work OK..like the marketplace. Happened to me several times today. Got an email from a friend of mine that lives in Florida that he couldn't even get to Rosity today. I live in NC and have left several times today because I couldn't get Rosity to load. I'm on DSL and every other site I go to loads fast so I know it's not me. As a side not here...when I clicked Post Reply, I got up, went to the bathroon, when to the kitchen to get something to drink, and even checked on the road work on the highway in front of my house and when I came back to the computer, this post hadn't even posted yet. That was a good 5 min's or more.

Hi, I know how frustrating it is, believe me:) Trying to get some work done and its not easy. They are working on it at this very moment. Sometimes its not easy to figure out what is going on when this happens and they have to try different solutions so it may take just a bit. They will get things back on track as soon as possible. Thanks, Stacey

cherokee69 ( ) posted Wed, 15 June 2005 at 4:19 PM

Hi Stacy, Yeah I know how frustrating it can be. I've been doing tech work on computer since 1991 so I know what they are going through but, as a curtisy to all Rosity members, I think it would be nice for someone to post a message either on the front page or in the forums to let everyone know what is going on. Sure hope they get it fixed soon, it's not only frustrating but it's now getting to the point of being annoying.

Yep, it's dog-slow. Reminds me of trying to use AOL back in 96 on a bad land line. Maybe restart all the servers or check for DOS attacks or something. Install new server software that can handle more simultaneous connections. Get some new air-conditioners for the server farm.

Yeah.

You wouldn't believe how long it takes my 300 baud modem with the phone handset stuck in it to load a page on Renderosity.

I just can't take this anymore. I'm going back to my old BBS.

Oh....wait a minute.....that place got raided for hosting a secret file from the Bell Telephone company. Some 17-year-old hacker had obtained the file, and then posted it for download on the BBS -- without the sysop's knowledge. Tough for the sysop.

But that means I can't go back.

What's a sysop? Similar to a webmaster. Only without the IP.

Just testing to see how long it takes this to post.

Dang, I remember those days. I used to have a BBS of my own.

It came to me in a flash.......

It's causing the entire website to slow down each time that I access my wishlist.

We found a few problems and they should be corrected. The forums are running much faster for me at this time. FYI, Clint

Cool...Not getting e-bots now though. Dont know if that is related to the fix though. Thanks Tom

Hi Tom, The e-bots might be delayed since we are sending out the weekly newsletter and that tends to eat into the mail servers ability to promptly deliver mail. Clint

It still appears to slow down in spurts then run fast for a while. We will continue to investigate. Clint

Hi Clint; site response is fairly uneven for me too. It's 0342 Rendero time right now, with about 1600 surfers, and it took about a minute to open this forum; but only a few seconds to open a gallery. I'm on cable broadband.

All the forums are loading fast for me right now. Even archive and search are faster than "normal". Thanks for the "tweaks" and I hope they stick.

10:30 AM Rendo time (11:30 Miami time).

1800 surfers

Slower than before...8 min to get on....5 min to go from the Poser forum to this one. Edit to say at least my post went right thru without a delay.

okies.. slowest yet here was able to (while waiting for the site to load) : Load the BBC News website and check the headlines Load Poserforums and check my msg's Load 3DGladiators and check new posts Load Freefall and check the forum for new posts Load Gallifrey 1 and see the news about the new Dr Who Series. THEN this site loaded. this is on a 6MBs Cable line, browsing with Firefox. I took about 5 - 6 minutes to check the other sites before this one loaded... browsing the other sites does not affect the speed here.. it's slow whatever I do.
