THE PLACE FOR ALL THINGS BRYCE - GOT A PROBLEM? YOU'VE COME TO THE RIGHT PLACE

Subject: What about dem "DEMs" ???

Anyone aware of web sites that post DEMS (Digital Elevation Models) or any that have details regarding using them in Bryce? (Aside from the USGS - I can't make heads or tails out of what they post, and nothing I download from them seems to have any files that can be imported into Bryce or placed in the terrain editor). Guess I'm missing something, and I have some projects coming up that would make good use of this technology. I am reading the scoop in Susan Kitchens' "Real World Bryce," but haven't got it figured out yet. Thanks.

You can import the DEMs from the USGS by clicking on Import under the File Menu. For some reason you have to import them like you would a mesh. Go figure! Jade

I found that when you download the dems from USGS they come in a .gz file format that is really odd. I just rename the extention to .dem and bryce converts them just fine. (This tip comes to you after hours of downloading 'tools' etc and a large dent in the wall from beating my head into it.)
