Subject: WATCH YOU'R LENS

I was shooting macros when I noticed that there was water on my camera lens, the sky's clear, and there is nothing that could have sprayed water except for a bug, and I can't get the residue off! Are there any bugs that can spray water? By the way there where several times that I felt water being sprayed on me.

Plants can drip sticky liquids. Bugs can squirt nasty things for self defence. You got slimed. Benefit of UV filters. Sorry to hear.

Rubbing Alcohol will take off 98% of anything you get on a lens and not damage the antireflective coatings. Do not rub the lens toohard, just wet it and let it sit for a minute then clean as normal.

Plants not only can drip sticky liquids, they usually will. Park your car under a tree and you'll see numberous little clear drops on it later. Since it's sap, it hardens.

Thanks for the info looks like I will be getting a UV filter. I will post one of the pictures that got ruined.

This happened to me today, while chasing a bug around the woods. Fortunately I had a nice lens cloth with me..not the usual case. Yeppie, go for the UV filter even if for protection only. That saved any concern of "lens" damage for me today. In my case, it was likely a sweat drop.
