Okay, so FX are one of my favorite things to do, and I haven't done pure FX for a very long time, since most of my time lately has been taken up in modeling and, oh, yes, relaxing since it IS summer, right? =)

So, here's my rocket launch. I should probably add a rocket to it, sometime, but any comments/suggestions/complaints on the FX in the meantime? EDIT: BTW, this is a bit grainy because I wasn't willing to wait for it to antialias. =)

I like the 2nd one best, the POV and the resulting composition with the smoke is much better and gives the whole thing more depth :)

Perhaps add some kind of launch tower....?

Usually smoke is white or grey..a minor point (seen my share of rocket launches, mainly Nike/Zeus..;) the overal shape works, tho..

Look like its destroying the ozone there:) Excellent smoke effects Robert. Look forward to seeing the end result.

I never intended to make art.

Amazingly good smoke you've done. I like the pov and scope of the second one better, but I would make the rocket itself a bit cleaner.

lordstormdragon ( ) posted Fri, 08 July 2005 at 12:35 PM

Aye, I like them both but the second one is much nicer! Interesting use of volumetrics, perhaps the best-looking mats I've seen of this sort for some time....! Good work, my friend...

Thanks everyone! =D

MoonGoat--
Thanks, but the rocket is just temporary anyway. I'm concentrating primarily on the special FX right now.

Bryster--
My thoughts exactly. =P

pakled--
Really? I seem to remember the smoke being black, from the ones I've seen. Maybe I'm just thinking of the one I've seen at night (which this is) =)

LSD--
lol, thanks very much! =)

ah..well, the white smoke (shuttles, anyway) is actually steam from the 'shock pond' (or whatever they call it)..either that, or they've found a new Pope..;)

The smoke(or steam) usually seems to be coming from the base of the flames, not right at the bottom of the rocket.
