Subject: Help please! Tutorials on space SF pictures (and related things) needed

Hypernaut ( ) posted Wed, 13 July 2005 at 6:51 PM · edited Sun, 12 January 2025 at 9:33 PM

Hi folks, I am about to make my first Space-SF picture. Therefor I need a background, which don't want to make with a 3d-modeling software, but in Photoshop. So I am searching for tutorials on how to paint space/starfields, nebulas, stars/suns and planets (with and without atmosphere). Also cool effects like LaserBeams/GunFire and thruster jets are very much wanted&needed. Btw. they all should be possible without any fancy plugins, since I don't have any g. Hope you can help me .... THX in advance.

Try DL-ing the www.flamingpear.com plugins. I use Glitterato for nebula and star backgrounds, lunarcell for planets and solarcell for individual stars etc. Have a look at this picture --> http://www.renderosity.com/viewed.ez?galleryid=99448 and have a look. That was done using the flamingpear plugins and took all of 3 minutes to do!! There's a couple of others on the very last page of my gallery. Flamingpear give you a 2 week demo/trial after which the plugins die unless you buy the full registered version - worth every penny in my opinion! Also worth getting is superblade pro for text effects and melancholytron for sepia looks. Sean

Also, the Universe plugins from www.diardsoftware.com are awesome :) sneak input from a PaintShopPro user :>

aaaargh - THX for the tips folks, but actually I tried to avoid plugins, because a curch mouse is wealthy compared to me g - besides doing it manually leaves open more options... but perhabs I will try them...

Well, the universe program mentioned above runs as a standalone. YOu don't get all the options the paid version gives but you can make a background sky pretty easily. So, I believe this is the link for a download of it.

Did a quick Google on painting space scenes: here are the top results. -------------------------- (Nicest collection of tutes seems to be at Solar Voyager: http://www.solarvoyager.com/tutorials.asp http://www.ap3d.com/betterspace/betterspace-tut-04.htm http://www.ap3d.com/betterspace/betterspace-tut-05.htm http://www.zimmertech.com/tutorials/paint-shop-pro/17/nova-galaxy-tutorial.php http://www.idigitalemotion.com/tutorials/guest/galaxy/galaxy.html http://www.developingwebs.net/photoshop/nebula.php -------------------------------------------- I have seen some other tutes out there, under individual artists' websites, but will have to track them down.
