Subject: Color Managment/Monitor Calibration for Adobe & LCDs

Smoker1000 ( ) posted Fri, 15 July 2005 at 7:57 AM · edited Sat, 09 November 2024 at 11:31 AM

Have recently obtained my first LCD monitor and discovered a huge color shift - all my grays (and, I assume, the remainder of my colors in the RGB default swatches) have a sizeable shift to sepia. So much so, in fact, that the darker grays look brown with a reddish tinge. Discovered that Adobe Gamma doesn't work with LCDs, so I recalibrated my monitor with its own software and shifted my profile to Monitor Color. That corrected the problem of desaturating and ending up with sepia. However, the default RGB swatches still load with the sepia color shift. Is this correct? Any advice on working with Adobe and LCDs would be sincerely appreciated. BTW - am currently adjusting for PS6 but also have CS2. I just haven't gotten to CS2 yet. Mark

I'm not the oldest bull in the herd, but possibly the dumbest. I had to find a Dummies manual to help me. So, here goes; I upgraded from 7 to CS2. According to this book here, and I have done this for my set up, if you have your LCD Display Manufacturers disk, you can go through:

Edit

Color Settings

Load

...to set up your RGB and CMYK settings so that what you see on the screen is what you get in the world.

Sorry I can't roll back to 6 for you to see the options you have.

May I ask why you haven't taken the plunge into CS2? Just curious.

Also, I think you will find that once you get your LCD set up, your colors will be much better and your eyes will certainly love you more for switching. No kidding, I nearly burned the center of my vision out, it's been two years since I made the switch (hellalot more expensive then) but my vision improvement was well worth the extra cash. If you are like me with the Home Fire Burning on the monitor most of the time, your power bill will show the difference too!

Good Luck

Joe

Thanks for your time and attention. I've got CS2 but haven't been able to quite warm up to some of the changes. We'll see what happens as time passese. Thanks again, Mark
