Subject: Using Hat and hair ?

Hi everybody.. I'm new in the poser world.. I've read the poser6 tutorial file and I've looked for some information about that on the internet but I didn't find anything.. Is there a way to use hair (like kozaburo's long hair.. or any other hair) and hat without having the hair going through the hat ? Thanks a lot

Yes, you have to use the dials for the hat to increase the size either completely or along it's X, Y, Z axis, and then reposition it using the X, Y, Z dials.

There is no easy way to do it....you can sometimes cheat and move the y-tran down on the hair to put it partially in the head, or you can use a bunch of magnets to deform it. There are also hat-hair sets available in various marketplaces. ..and there is always post work ;)

Another idea would be to create a trans map and use it to make the top part of the hair invisible. And another idea is to use the grouping tool and create a separate material zone for the top of the hair. Then make this material zone transparent. Then you don't have to worry about trying to fit the hat to the hair or the hair to the hat.

Since real hair conforms to the shape of the hat, rather than the hat conforming to the shape of the hair, using either a transmap at the top of the hair, or better yet a magnet to pull the hair in, would give you the best-looking option.

Sometimes a trans map works, but some hair is poorly mapped in that differen parts use the same area of the map. Other hair is mapped so that adjacent areas on the map are widely separated on the model or vice versa.

I have 2 textures that I use to figure out how a hair model is mapped. One is a set of vertical rainbow stripes and the other is horizontal, I apply them and render, The results tell me what parts of the hair are which parts of the map.

Nothing is perfect but here are some tools that may work in some combination:

  1. Trans maps as mentioned above.
  2. Magnets to bend some pieces out of the way.
  3. Turn off parts of a .CR2 in the hierarchy menu.

There are morphs for Some of the kozaburo hair that help it fit under certain types of hats. (Rei for sure)

Lastly, As I stated in another post, The Ivy Long Tails (and probably lots of others) has a skullcap that looks good under a tight hood, scarf or head harness.
