Subject: V3 SAE Expressions - which ones work sold here?

3DNeo ( ) posted Mon, 18 July 2005 at 11:21 AM · edited Thu, 30 January 2025 at 9:29 AM

I have had some bad luck with trying to locate a usable V3 SAE expression package here at the store. After buying two packs, I found our thier code is OLD and DOES NOT work for "V3 SAE", only the older models. This was verified by two merchants as not working with V3 SAE, yet their ads don't ever state it. So, not wanting to get burned again, I was wondering if anyone here can tell me if their are in fact some GOOD V3 expression packs that work with the current DAZ V3 figure? It sure would be nice if merchants updated their requirments and info about what will and will NOT work. Some just make a product then never bother to look at it again to update it. When new versions of figures or Poser come out, it would be nice to know they work! OK, end of mini rant, but wanted to make a point to some merchants (not all). Thanks for letting me know.

What's your problem with those packs? I've got a bunch of old packs, that still work. And that's good for those old saved pre SAE characters, that need expressions to be injected...

Yeah, I don't get this, either. V3SA does not have all the face morphs built in. In order to use most face/expression packs you will need the face morph pack from DAZ, which, I believe, should be specified in the product's ReadMe.

Are you talking about "V3 Special Anniversary Addition" or "V3 New Generation 2005" as found here?

If so, that's the problem. That latest version of Vicky doesn't have morph channels and won't let you use the Character Addons.

You shouldn't be having trouble using any of the character addon packages with V3 SAE. As indicated above, you do need the head and body morph packages for the old V3 base, as well as the V3 SAE that DAZ is giving away free at them moment.

Actually, since the expressions are built in they should work (as long as they don't call on any other morphs) with V3 SAE without the morph packs. The problem will be that, if created pre-SAE, they will call the delta and visibility files in the !DAZ folder which you won't have (the updated head morphs come with a set of 0 byte files to fix this). You have two options:

  1. Set up a series of empty (0 byte) pz2 files named and in folders as required for the expression morphs;

  2. delete the Readscript lines from (a copy of) the injection poses;

  3. buy the morph packs (OK, three options, but two free ones).

I think of V3 New Gen 2005 as a character pack

"I think of V3 New Gen 2005 as a character pack" [Jules Winnfield]Correctamundo![/Jules Winnfield] Not a model, not a version of V3 but a character pack.

Seems to me that there's scope for a Python script which will delete or comment-out the readscript entries in a .pz2 if they point to a non-existent file.

Here's an email from a merchant that didn't work with V3 SAE. It should answer some quetions - "> It turned out DAZ has changed some things in the Victoria 3 Second > Anniversary Edition and Papu and myself weren't aware of it. Apparently > people who haven't had any previous installations of V3 will experience > problems with the product on V3 SAE. > > I imagine the problem can be fixed, but it will probably mean a big > amount of work because we will most likely have to make a second version > of every single preset in the product in order to get them to work on V3 > SAE. Papu is out of town and I'm leaving for Prague in two days so I > don't think I'm able to get the product updated soon enough for the > customer :( > > Sincerely > > Outi Ry / Eowyn" As you can tell from that merchant's email, yes, there are indeed issues with several expression packs not just from them but also a few other I've found. I'm surprised no one has mentioned this before. I would like to complement the merchant for taking care of it for me since it didn't work and their attempt to help. I just wish more merchants would test with all CURRENT versions of software and figures if they plan on selling content. Then post the UPDATED specs on their page here. Yes, I have ALL V3 and S3 packs, body and face. Also I have the international beauty morph packs from DAZ. It is NOT the 2005 V3 version (not a good figure to work with), just the CURRENT V3 SAE verison with patches. So, that's not the issue. If you take a stock V3 SAE you get the same errors. As the merchant points out, the calls made to specific files HAVE CHANGED. When you try some expression packs they will always have a file not found error because the morphs have been renamed, modified or they are in another location. An exaple of this is a call to the "arch left eyebrow" or "arch right eyebrow" (name may be off not sure unless I check) they no longer exist in that format and /or location. I use both Poser 5 and 6 for windows on different computers with the current patches for them. It's not software, only figure related due to the changes made by DAZ. Make sure you are talking about the CURRENT Again, the merchant points out even THEY would require a considerable amount of time and rework to get it to work with current version. Hope this clears some things up.

3DNeo, do you mind if I refer Daz to that email?

RHaseltine ( ) posted Tue, 19 July 2005 at 8:27 AM

I raised this with DAZ a couple of weeks ago, in response to a similar problem on the DAZ forums. The morph packs were updated a little after the release of V3 SAE with 0 byte files for the no-longer-needed expression delta and visibility pz2 files, which are what are causing the error messages for 3DNeo and the mechants: redownloading the Head Morph pack (you can reset from the Itemised order history on your account page) should fix it, if not the wrong version is on the server - let me know and I'll prod DAZ to get it replaced.

AntoniaTiger ( ) posted Tue, 19 July 2005 at 8:41 AM

Now, I have what seems to be a full set of head morphs. And the V3 SAE. So do I need to worry about anything?

RHaseltine ( ) posted Tue, 19 July 2005 at 9:02 AM

You shouldn't, no.

AntoniaTiger ( ) posted Tue, 19 July 2005 at 9:37 AM

Well, I don't think it had anything to do with my ADSL connection dropping dead.... :(

RHaseltine ( ) posted Tue, 19 July 2005 at 10:00 AM

Well, your ADSL modem was in a postion to read your outgoing post and say "Aha! She's getting complacent."
