in Vue, it's actually the opposite: White is transparent, so if you're using a transmap, be sure to invert the map by clicking the little dot on the upper right corner, next to your image map.
If you want holes to appear in a simple material, and you don't have an image map, you need to create a function for the transparency production, not easy to do, but you can always start by editing one of Vue's ready made functions.
In the transparency tab of the advanced material editor, choose 100% transparency, and click variable transparency, and here, edit your transparency production function.
Could be quite easy with Infinite, not so hard in 5 esprit or ProStudio, might be harder in Vue4 or 4Pro though. If you have a transmap, use it in the transparency production function.

How do you actually apply a material that has transparency?
Generally, when using a black and white transparency maps, the black area becomes invisible. Is that the same for Vue? And how do you combine this with a material that you want to have holes appear...something like lace?
Thanks.
