Subject: Question about infinite light.

Why is it that when an infinite light ray hits an object, it passes right through it and continues on. Is there a way to get the light to stop when it hits a wall?

Turn off Infinite Light in the light lab?

bandolin ( ) posted Wed, 03 August 2005 at 9:35 AM

You don't understand. I want the light to be infinite, like a laser light. But I don't want it to go through the wall on the other side and continue off into the horizon. I want it to stop at the wall.

Then use a normal volume light and set the fall off length so that it hits the wall rather then goes through it?

I was afraid you were going to say that. :-(

Because you've turned off it's shadow?

I agree with Xenic. I think the most likely source of your problem is that you have the shadows turned off on your light, for some reason. If it is turned on in the light lab, you might want to check and see if you are using a gel. If so, it could be that shadows are disabled on the mat itself, rather than just on the light. Now what I wish is that Bryce did real bouncing of light rays, so that if you hit a mirror with a laser object, it would bounce off. But you just have to do that manually, which isn't cool at all. ;)
