He may not need a converter, since most files are now cross-platform (P6). But I saw a report on CNN, when Aaron Brown was interviewing a computer security expert, who said that a good way to avoid Windows security problems is to use Mac OS, which the expert said had "no virus base", as opposed to several hundred thousand known Windows viruses. I have to admit I was surprised - I didn't know it was that bad.

Good for his parents. In any case, if he's got Poser 5 or Poser 6, there's no need for conversion because Curious Labs now supports common data formats on both platforms. If he has to deal with older PC-specific formats, fmorgan has a couple of free cleanup utilities that don't require running MacConverter in Classic mode. If he's stuck with an ancient Mac and Poser 4, of course that is sad; almost as bad as being chained to Windows. ;-)

"Several hundred thousand"? That sounds like a number he pulled out of thin air. CERT has logged less than 20,000 (19,600) vulnerabilities since 1988 for all platforms. The cumulative Wild List (wildlist.org) lists 3,255 'in the wild' viruses since 1993. Even if you count HIV and the common cold... It's amazing how people can get on TV and spout such nonsense which then gets repeated. This "expert" didn't say his last name was Jobs did he? Fact: If all the naked Vickie renders were printed out at 8.5"x11" and put together, they would stretch from lower Manhattan to Alpha Centauri 2.5 times!
