Subject: Shotgun: compress all textures

I always render to 4000 pixel high, do my postwork in Photoshop, and reduce it to half, or quarter size. I do "toony" stuff, so I'm not interested in photo-realistic images. I was thinking of making a backup of all my textures, and using some image software to reduce all my textures by factor of four: 800 x 800 becomes 400 x 400. I have Photoshop 7, but it appears it the GUI only allows one folder at a time to be automatted, not all images (*.jpg, *.bmp) in all subdirectories. Anyone got some good advice? Thanks

Have you tried using Irfanview? Has batch capabilities, croping under the advanced options. It may not be as automated as you'd like but it will work on all files in a folder.

I must remember to remember what it was I had to remember.

It might be possible to do this using the batch processor in PS. You would need to write an action to load, resize, and save each image, then run it via the batch processor, which has a checkbox for 'include subfolders' - so you can process an entire directory tree.
