Subject: Anybody familiar with .m3d format?

rreynolds ( ) posted Fri, 19 August 2005 at 1:00 PM · edited Thu, 01 August 2024 at 3:36 PM

I downloaded some files, probably from a Japanese site, and they're all in .m3d format. A Google search says the format is either: 3D Animations Macro Corel Motion 3D Animation I've got an older version of CorelDraw which I could dust off to see if its 3D module can open these files, but I rather doubt that it can. CorelDraw no longer seems to offer that program in their latest offering. I haven't found anything on the net that says much about this file type. Is anybody familiar with this file format and whether there is anything that can convert the files to a more usable format?

I think they may be Poser 6 compressed morphs for Poser 6 new external morphs setup. Not very familiar with them myself.

I don't think they're morphs because I filed them under Oriental props. It's been months since I downloaded them and there's no readme to remind me where I got them. I figure they had to be from a Poser Japanese site. Here's some of the filenames in case somebody else downloaded them: andon01 andon02 bonbori byobu01 chagama daifukucho goban hibachi1 ido01 irori jizai jizai02 kagami kame ohitsu oke

Could they be sound files ?

I doubt they're sound files. They're more likely one of these: 3D Animations Macro Corel Motion 3D Animation Since I probably got them from a Japanese site, it's possible that they're not what I thought they'd be since I cannot read the language and didn't use a translation. Unfortunately, without a readme, there's no way to figure out where I found them. I just checked the date I downloaded them and it was a year ago.

I'm pretty sure they're from Honey's site. They're a Japanese modeling format, MyHome Designer. You should be able to find .obj or Poser format versions of most of these on the site. I've never found a converter for this format.

Just taken a peek inside one of them.
There's a couple of embedded BMPs, and the rest is probably serialised class data (like Bryce files), so not really possible to extract the 3D data from.

The M3d models at the link above on edo's site are for 3D My Home Designer which is software by this Japanese company - http://www.megasoft.co.jp/ I haven't found a converter that will open them. Biturn will open it as a bitmap, but that's useless.

Those are the files. I must have been in a downloading frenzy and not noticed that they weren't Poser usable files. I'm amazed that somebody found the files because I'd long ago forgotten about them.
