Subject: Strange Problem - Poser Not Responding in XP

thedoctor ( ) posted Sun, 21 August 2005 at 3:00 PM ยท edited Fri, 16 August 2024 at 6:09 AM

I recently re-installed POSER 6 on my laptop. I did a new install and then downloaded the SR-1 updater as well as the Content Updater from the e-Frontier site. Everything seems cool until I run the program and then attempt to pose a figure. As soon as I go to the properties panel the program hangs and is "not responding". I've re-installed the software twice now with this same result. Any ideas??? THANKS Mark

Two possibilities spring to mind... Not enough disk space or too small of a swap file. I suggest these because the program may be responding, but slowly, as it tries to page the changes in and out. Of course, I could be totally wrong but it's worth looking into.

Could be your firewall. For some reason, P6 has a lot of trouble with firewalls. See if it works with your firewall turned off.

Will look at both suggestions. Cannot tell you enough how much I appreciate being able to turn to this community for help. I'll post the results of my troubleshooting shortly. Mark

Ok, my problem is fixed. Unfortunately, I'm not completely sure what the problem was. First, it wasn't the firewall as the problem persisted with and without it on. Then I freed up a lot of space because things were getting tight on the primary drive. Then I found a bunch of viruses after running AdAware and Spybot. Finally, there was a process using a bunch of CPU time called IMJPMIG.EXE. I lookedly it up and it apparently involves the East Asian languate functionality on Windows. I don't need that so I disabled it. Anyway, it was chewing up almost all the processor cycles so it may have been the culprit. I'm told that some viruses write to that file and it very well may have been infected. Anyway, things work now. THANKS for the help. Mark

You're welcome. Happy to know you got it sorted. BTW, why didn't you use the Sonic Screwdriver?

I don't even know what the Sonic Screwdriver is. Please enlighten me!
