Poser - OFFICIAL F.A.Q (Last Updated: 2025 Feb 02 10:01 am)
joeyb- Only way I know to bring in object files into Poser from Max is either as figures (and a bicycle can be a figure) or as props. If you bring them in as figures the size and position matter, as props the Max size and position are meaningless. I think the size "100%" on a prop import would make it about the size of the Poser Dork in its biggest dimention, so a skirt can be either brought in at 30% or you can bring it in at 100% and scale it down later, to 30%, same either way.
That's what I've had to do, is scale down after they are in or do it on the import parameter panel. Interesting. How does the OBJ file know I've got a prop versus a figure? Is it because the OBJ is Exported from Poser, and therefore has it's position "known" to Poser for "figures"? (Just for curiosity sake, and to learn more about the depths of Poser.) Thanks Jim!
Well, props can use seperate object files (that is how DAZ wants their's done), but figures normally have a CR2 file that calls out the object file. If your going to bring an item in as a figure, it must have a CR2, made either from a copy of a similar item or through a heirachary file you create and convert to a CR2 through Poser. The second way is how I got my bicycle in, but I normally try to avod it for clothing-type figures, as doing all the joint paremeters from scratch is a huge amount of work. The bicycle had to have the forks turn and the wheels spin and the pedals go around, but getting this right is trivial compared to getting a tight shirt to fit an existing figure, and not poke through when the limbs bend!
Ouch, Jim, sorry I asked. :o) I was planning to save my clothes as props (I think), but I want them to be conformable, and I'm still working on the first material map. Once I get that done, I'll "conform" the prop, and then see what has to change to be able to animate the clothes properly. Thanks Jim, for the tips!

I'm bringing in two props; a jacket and skirt, but I have to scale the skirt down to 30%, and the jacket to 80% to get them to be the right size when I place them over Possette. I also have to "raise them from the floor", but I don't have the "place on floor" option checked. I'm using Habware's obj exporter, and I did not have this problem with a previous draft, only with the completed versions. I've re-imported the Possette into max, and everything seems to be in the right place and size in that direction. I'm running Poser 4.03, so I think I'm current there also. Has anyone seen that happen before? What could cause that?
