I thought this was pretty funny, she didn't understand the difference between a dictionary and a thesaurus. Heck, everybody knows that a dictionary is a book and a Thesaurus is a type of dinosaur. Right? Seriously now, I could not agree with him more. I hate the new e-speak that has become so prevalent. It's hard to believe people actually write query letters using it. Not smart. Not smart at all. jon

Utopia Writing in a new era.
Yeah I know and when you call someone on it (in a message board) they alwyas reply back that they were in a hurry that is why they typed like that. It seems like it would take longer to type out most of the stuff they do... M = one character I/I = 4 character. over at animotions some guy started a thread asking for something and after a week no one had responded and he got mad and started another one in which case others (including myself) said that if he wanted a reply he should type a request that we could understand. Amazingly enough that once he did that he had several replys the first day. I tend to ignore people like that and if more people did maybe it would go away...at least on the more intelectual boards.
Several cultures have had more than one script for writing... take ancient Egypitian with both the formal hieroglyphs and the hieratic scribbles. If this computertext stuff continues to differentiate itself, maybe in a thousand years it will be enshrined as a real format. Meanwhile, I see it is junk written by people trying desperately to look cool and up-to-date. It is just as sloppy and irritating as putting a "z" on the end of every other word. Carolly

From WritersWeekly.com - August 24, 2005. Johnny Gunn is editor-in-chief of the on-line newsmagazine The Nevada Observer. His essays have appeared in Front Porch News Syndicate, Laissez Faire Electronic Times, and Dana Literary Journal. Interesting article on the impression careless writing makes on an editor.
