Subject: Some quick questions about Poser 6

autorenderphreak ( ) posted Fri, 02 September 2005 at 10:26 PM · edited Wed, 15 January 2025 at 9:57 AM

I was considering moving to Poser 6 because I'm tired of animating clothing in Poser 4. Does poser 6's dymanic clothing really animate well? Is there alot of support for Poser 6; products for sale? Finally, does Poser 6 support Vicky and Mike? And all their clothes? I mean, is it largely backwards compatible? I'm really struggling with this decision. Any opinions would be appreciated (how often do you hear THAT?) Thanks a ton, ARP

I can't answer the animation one but..... There is tons of support for P6 - more products than you can imagine - most products will work in ALL the posers - I rarely find one that won't Yes! It supports all the older items including Vicky and Mike. Haven't really had to much trouble with anything. Go ahead - get it - you know you want to :-)

Dynamic cloth usually animates great, once you've got the hang of it. You might never want to go back to conformers, especially for items like long dresses, skirts, and other loose clothing. The P6-specific marketplace continues to grow, but you've already got three years of P5 merchandise available, and it all works in P6. Victoria, Mike, and the rest of the DAZ gang will work in P6. So do their injection morphs. So does their clothing. The crosstalk fix introduced in P5 often prevents matching clothing morphs from working automatically; you may often have to set the clothing morphs manually. But other than tweaking the bump and ambient settings on some materials, there are few if any problems. In fact, P6's new global crease-angle function should even prevent the smoothing glitches that often occur in P5. The short answer is: yes, it's backward-compatible.

The amount of dynamic clothing in the marketplace (either here or elsewhere) is hardly overwhelming. Freebies is another matter. There is very good stuff at poserfashion.net, and here on 'rosity freestuff you'll also find some dynamic clothes. For Vicki 2/3 and Mike 2/3 too. The stock figure that comes with P6, Jessi, is getting much more support than P5 Judy ever got, both in freestuff and on the market. You also might want to check on dynamic hair. kirwyn has a dynamic hair freebie for Jessi that is very good for animations - I guess you're also tired of animating long hair?

I've had some difficulties with INJ's. The other problem I've had is with partial MAT's that don't seem to work in Poser 6. This often means like the MAT's I have to change lipstick or eye colour but nothing else don't work so I think you have to do it manually.

I just upgraded from P4 to P6... WOW! Yes, it's worth the $99. You wont know what to do with all the new things (compared to P4)! (Or what to play with first) I'm glad my Athlon 1.3Ghz died I just got a new Athlon64 3.2Ghz /1Gig RAM /ATI-X700Pro256 /250Gig SATA and DVD/RW and the software responds well to the machine.

That's great! I'm glad there is enthusiam over Poser 6 - I was afraid I'd loose all my investment in Vicky and Mike. I really like to animate, and dynamic clothing seems to be the way to go. Thanks! ARP

what about poses? can you apply a pose that is poser 4 designed to a V3 or The Girl character?

svdl ( ) posted Sun, 11 September 2005 at 12:11 AM

A pose that was designed in P4 works exactly the same in P6. So if you made a pose for V3 in P4, that pose will work 100% the same in P6. Of course, a pose designed for the Poser 4 female can be applied to V3, but you'll have to do some tweaking to get it right. This has nothing to do with the Poser version.

so in other words Daz's Mimic will work with Poser 6 then too, right? since it essential creates animated poses.

Exactly.
