didn't we used to have one of these? i was noticing a lot of "OT" posts in the poser forum and was wondering: 'why are they posting off topic posts in the poser forum instead of the off topic forum??' i guess cuz it doesn't exist any more? so where do i go if i want to talk about sluggy freelance or weird things i read in the paper and other... weird stuff? did i hide it, and that's why i can't see it? ::wanders around, bumping into stuff::

C+D is long since gone....The OT forum is dead as well....The last attempt "The Den" is gone as well... The administration has made it clear..there will never be another.. :-(

"so where do i go if i want to talk about sluggy freelance or weird things i read in the paper and other... weird stuff?" Another site. Other sites can manage OT forums but evidently,...this site can not. Try 3DC's "Pub" or Off The Wall"forums. Tom

Tom.... 3DC's forum has never seen the volume of posts our former forums did...Nor has it seen the amount of political discussion we did.. I worked two of the forums...I tried my best to keep them running, and abide by this sites rules.. Now, in an unofficial capacity...you might want to check out the link I have provided..

She didn't aske for a "Large"OT forum. Just an OT forum. I worked here at Rosity also during the OT Days.(Before the 3DC even existed) I know of the volume you speak of. You are preachin to the chior Bruce. I'm not sure what is has to do with the request but I know these communities and the volume the OT forums here as well as other sites. Not just the 3DC. My suggestion to go there was only that,a suggestion for someone looking for a place to post OT. She didn't ask for a "Large" OT forum. Just an OT forum. Tom

"I worked two of the forums...I tried my best to keep them running, and abide by this sites rules.." ...and I bet you've still got the scars :) Part of the problem was that a particularly persistent troll set up several identities for the sole purpose of arguing with him(her?)self and generally raising temperatures all round. This person tried it on at Cheryle's forum, but was eventually uncovered and hosed (with IIRC at least six `personalities'). m ;)

No matter where you guys set up one of these Internet forums, there are always going to be enforcement problems and resultant limitations on free speech. I know Cheryle started out with a promise that everyone would be welcome at her forum, but that's an unworkable ideal on the Internet. My suggestion is for people to go to their local public park or bodega or cantina or bar or coffee shop or pool hall or whatever to talk politics with their friends, because they're alot less irresponsible when discussing things face-to-face, and it's a good maturing process to develop the ability to self-moderate.

"why are they posting off topic posts in the poser forum" Now you can understand.

Really..so when were you there last, my man? As a longtime member of the Lost Tribes I take exception to anyone criticising Cheryle. We argue like crazy and yet the world still turns. Instead of saying it's unworkable, why not try it out...I mean to say...she lets pearce post there..how much more tolerant could you be?

ron knights? ~evil grin~ I actually visit one forum, zero moderation. and almost no arguments. some extremely "spirited" disagreements. ;) actually has very few problem posts. so it does work. even with hot political discussions.. religion..environment..terrorism.

Oh, I agree, mon, that Cheryle set out to provide a forum for free speech, but due to the nature of the Internet, eventually she had to make it invitation-only IIRC, and two guys have been banned AFAIK. I'm sure they deserved it, if they were attacking women or arguing with themselves, but until you can set up a place where even the most unpopular monster can speak freely, then you are not providing free speech. The converse of that: you need good moderation, erring on the side of caution, if you want to avoid strife and ill-will. I know Ron has been banned at various sites, but I never felt good about that. I think in time he would have adjusted, just like you guys did at Cheryle's forum. I say forgive and forget.

The people who were banned at cheryl's weren't banned for speaking their minds or having differing opinions, but for flooding, attacking people, inordinate rudeness and simply for being annoying as hell to every single person on the list. We've all been free to speak our minds there, and many of us have vastly differing opinions. Yet somehow we manage to coexist peacefully and respect one another. My situation, in terms of health and finances is well known to many here at rosity. Yet the very people who most vehemently disagree with me at cheryl's are the same people who step up first to help out when things get really bad for me. I don't think you solve a problem by getting rid of a forum. You solve it by dealing with the people who are disrupting that forum, while the remaining members manage to get along by acting like grown ups and respecting each other. It CAN be done.

Well that's been suggested before, but if you're disabled, or live in a shitty `hood, or out in the sticks (like me), or you're a single parent with little kids, or fill in the blanks, then those aren't easy options if you want to stay in regular touch with anything other than the TV ;)

um... what are we arguing about? i was just asking :) the poser community is where i know the most people, so the post i wanted to post, i wanted to post around here somewhere. cuz um... this IS my local pub. to me. but it isn't really on-topic. it has SOME poser art stuff and SOME writing stuff. actually, its my own small (and i hope it stays small) (but not empty!) forum that i want to 'advertise' for interested persons. i guess i can put it somewhere innocuous, like my bio thingy. and thanks, guys. now i know! :)
