Subject: Halloween items

Acadia ( ) posted Fri, 16 September 2005 at 4:15 PM ยท edited Tue, 21 January 2025 at 9:59 PM

I am in need of some halloween items. Preferably freebies... but will consider other ones if they aren't too expensive. Can someone point me to links where I can get such things as: Jack-O-Lantern, ghosts, general spooky halloween-related stuff?

Mapps made fantastic ghost (http://www.freewebs.com/mapps/) SAMS3D have got some pumpkin stuff in Freebies at the moment. Witch stuff (broom & hat) here: http://www.geocities.com/dcou812/seasonalprops.html Some Jack-o-lantern-stuff scattered through Freebies. Try to dig through Mystic-Nights' Poser links directory (no link - I'm not home ATM, but do a search for "directory" here in the forum and you'll surely find it). Good luck :)

SinSister has a jack-o-lantern prop here in Free Stuff, and Traveler has a set in the freebies at RunTime DNA.

Check the freebie archive at DAZ for some Halloween jewelry and a casket.

SHAR3D : witch's hats, Ouija board, cauldrons

sys has a sheet ghost and Ouija board among the freebies at PoserPros.

Thanks everyone :) I can't access the site: http://www.freewebs.com/mapps/ It just hangs up and then gives a time out. But I did manage to find some great items at the other places. I haven't looked at the Mystic Nights site yet, because surfing on my desktop is way too slow. I'll check it out later on my laptop. Thanks again :)

Mapps has had some bandwidth trouble recently so his site may be down for a while.

Acadia, at first when I trie to access mapps site last year I had problems too due to my firewall...I had to go in and change my settings to "allow" his site because I think the firewall had www.freewebs.com on the blocked list...once I allowed his site, I've had no further probs since! and it's a veritable treasure trove of outstanding freebies!

Say what you mean and mean what you say.

Mapps' Haunted Manison kicks ass! The preview pictures don't do it justice. It's an amazing piece of work. You can pose charactors inside and outside the house too (it's not just an exterior). You can recombine the props and figures too. I think he has even more goodies for it coming out soon (like morphing conforming and dynamic curtains to blow in the wind). He has two freebies for it in the Free Stuff (the ghost and 2nd tower). Sweet!!! =D bB

Acadia ( ) posted Sat, 17 September 2005 at 5:49 PM ยท edited Sat, 17 September 2005 at 5:53 PM

bB, can you direct me to the area for the 2nd tower? I found the ghost, but can't find the tower you speak of. Is the mansion that you refer to, the one in his store here? If so, it looks impressive. Only I'm not great with working with scenes like that, plus my computer seems to have a hard time rendering scenes with lots of objects and things in them. So I tend to positionk, then render one item at a time and reassemble it in paint shop pro.

Zombie for V3? http://www.sparkyworld.co.uk/3d2own.htm Works with Mike and other unimesh figures if you apply textures manually.

Oh thanks!!! Lots of great halloween stuff out there. Thanks to everyone for pointing me to them, and special thanks to the creators for making them and offering them free to us! You're all amazing! :)

Acadia, You can find Mapps' freestuff and store items on his homepage here: http://www.renderosity.com/homepage.ez?Who=mapps I don't render full scenes with tons of things in them, my system can't handle it either. I usually only use what is seen the scene, and render in layers: background, then people. Fortunately, you can breakdown Mapps' house into parts very easily, so you can use what you need. :) bB

I have poser 5, so I can't do the render in layers thing. The best I can do is set up the scene, save as a .pz3 file and then hide or delete all the figures and background and render 1 figure at a time. Then assemble it in PSP. Poser 6 has some appealing features, but I have so much to learn that Poser 5 is fine for now. Perhaps in a year when I've learned more I'll upgrade. Thanks Anton, I'll check that link. I'm having a blast rendering Halloween stuff :)

BastBlack ( ) posted Sun, 18 September 2005 at 12:37 AM

Mummified for HIM is very cool. Best Mummy ever, imho. 8) Acadia, I meant exactly what you are doing, render parts of the scene and rebuild it in Photoshop as layers. I have no idea if Poser6 can do "layers," I don't think it does. bB

mrsparky ( ) posted Sun, 18 September 2005 at 9:10 AM

Poser 6 doesn't render in layers, but you don't need photoshop either. Imagine a typical scene. Background, midground, foreground. Create the background of your scene. No mid or foreground objects, figures etc. Save the camera postion and remember what light set you used. Render it as a .bmp. call it backdrop.bmp. If you only have a low spec Pc close poser and restart at each stage so the textures arn't lurking in the materials list. OK, make a new scene this will be the midground. Load your saved camera and import backdrop.bmp as the background image. Create the midground scene only no background or foreground objects. Save and render. Cal this image middrop.bmp Again new scene. The foreground. Again only foreground objects needed here. This time import middrop.bmp as the background image and render. See no layers or paint package required! The only time you'll need a paint package is to tidy up a layer - say removin minor poke-through. But if you really want to get creative, blurring each stage in PSP or photshop can give some fun results. Though don't overdo it or it looked cliched. Overall have fun!

Andi3D has more horror related than Halloween related freebies, but there's a lot to pick and choose. DAZ Platinum Club has a lot of Halloween stuff each year.

My visual indexes of Poser content are at http://www.sharecg.com/pf/rgagnon

Acadia ( ) posted Tue, 20 September 2005 at 12:00 AM

Thanks. I had forgotten about Andi3D. I have some of those items saved on a CD and will dig them out. The bone chair and a few other things will be perfect :)

Ya if you don't have Mummy for H.I.M. run don't walk over to CLCP and grab it. just got it and love it!!! Be sure to read the readme though. PS having troubles with my site? Feel free to IM me, I can't trouble shoot if i don't know about a problem :-)

Mapps, that phantom sheet is awesome! I used it over top of a skeleton. It takes quite a while to run the simulation because I use 60 frames...but it looks incredible.

Yep. It's great. Here is one render I did. I haven't done anything with the ghostie yet... so I put him on an orange/black gradient for you to see.

I was thinking that it would look great overtop of a vampire bride. I have that on my to do list this week. I haven't tried... but is it possible to rehue it in the material room and still retain the shearness of the fabric?

Hmmm, I just had another idea. If after I run the simulation, can I delete the figure or all of the figure except the head and still retain the shape pose of the phantom sheet?

You can do that, you can also export the phantom sheet as an object and keep the shape pose to use again.

Thanks :) You know, Poser has become a whole lot more fun since I've started getting into other areas of it :)
