Hello everyone. I've never posted here, but I use Photoshop all the time. I'm in the process of making a new logo for myself and need some tips or advice. I am trying to make a tail, kind of like a devil's tail that comes off the last letter of the name and goes under the rest of the name in a wavey line with the point at the end. I can do it with the paint brush, but it isn't smooth enough. You can tell I haven't gotten into it too deep yet. Anyone have any suggestions? Did I even make sense? lol ~Damia~

try the pen tool. you can make straight lines and smooth curves

And once you've got the basic shape, try some layer styles. A gradient, for example, can be really good for adding a bit of depth/shadowing. A soft bevel will also work for that sort of thing. Once you've got the tail done the way you want, you can use a layer mask to blend it into the logo. :-) bonni

Make it in FreeHand or some other vector app and export in .EPS, it will save the transparency ;) Hope this will help you ;) Tihomir

Tihomir's right, using a vector app like Freehand or Adobe Illustrator is the easiest way. you can convert the font into an outline which gives you anchor points that can be adjusted or added to to make your shape [see attached]

but if you want to do it in PS [or need to because you don't have any vector apps...] you can create your "tail" using the PEN tool [do it on a new layer] like suggested above and you'll be able to "mask" any part of the font you don't want showing.

Thank you guys soooo much! I have never used the pen tool so when I tried....well let's just say it was a disaster. lol And you are right, I don't have any vector programs installed. I did find a way to do it....although I will keep trying to see if I can get it to look better, but for now it works. I really appreciate all the suggestions. I may have to start watching this forum more closely. :) Oh, here's what I was doing, just so you get an idea. :) ~Damia~
