A nice wish Esther. But DAZ, as owner of Bryce i cannot really see providing e-on with details about file formats and all necessary things to do that. And beyong technical details there is always a legal aspect to deal with a specific format. Something a lot of people are not aware of. So unfortunately i fear it will not happen. But let's hope and don't give up asking.

For the moment, can't you export still scenes as .OBJ files from DAZ Studio, then import them into Vue? Cheers

#1 You can export DAZ Studio scenes to Vue via normal OBJ procedure; #2 Why use DAZ Studio at all, since Poser is such a better and more complete software?

How about comparing prices? For a lot of people this is a very good argument!

"How about comparing prices? For a lot of people this is a very good argument! " Sorry, but usually you get what you pay for.

Poser 4 comes very cheap today and it's still better than DAZ Studio under many respects. THe only better thing that DAZ Studio has compared to Poser 4 is the renderer... but since estherau is going to render in Vue anyway... And don't forget that to complete DAZ Studio to a level that is comparable to Poser 4, you'll have to buy plugins, for things such as Magnets for instance, which are default in Poser 4. After you'll pay for all DAZ Studio plugins, I bet you'll end up spending more than for Poser 4.

Before bashing Daz Studio, download the 1.0 and the Power Pose Plug-in and use it. In the case of D|S, you get a lot more than what you pay for.

Poser 6 has a lot more feature than D|S, no doubt. Dynamic clothing, material room, sound with animation, etc. And it sends file into Vue easily.

D|S is much faster and more powerful at manipulating models thanks to well-thought keyboard shortcuts and really good OpenGL implementation. And the Power Pose plug-in is much more powerful than IK in Poser.

"2. Why use DAZ Studio at all, since Poser is such a better and more complete software?" Not always true Orio...depends what you would want to use Poser or DAZ for. If it's just still images, then DAZ Studio has all that a person requires (and looking at the galleries that is all alot of people are doing...don't even need to conform any clothes for a lot of them. Just need a "big tit" morph to work :/)...now for animation then Poser is the way to go if you are not up to rigging your own characters. Cheers Cheers

Hi, well I have poser 6, but I also got the 2 first daz studio pluggins free, and I was wondering what would happen if I used the pose thingy to make some really neat poses that I wanted to keep or use in vue. Love esther

--Actually Estherau I think DAZ will make their file format available in an SDK (if they haven't already) and give it to E-on at NO CHARGE. It is in DAZ's interest to make their file format as widely used as possible. I'm sure DAZ would love to have Vue, as well as MAX, Lightwave, Maya, etc. all using DAZ STUDIO as a primary staging area for import of their models and figures. It's in their STRATEGIC INTEREST to do so... Love, Veritas

...Oh, and don't forget E-ON's new little VUE-LITE (or whatever they are calling it)-- that together with DAZ Studio would make a nice little intro kit for low budget 3D modelers. I'm sure E-ON wouldn't mind selling the HECK out of those- and if a DAZ Studio file import would HELP... HEH! Well, they would be crazy NOT to accept and use a FREE DAZ file import function... Don't know WHEN, myself, but with the "DS 1.0" Official Release out now- it could be relatively soon...

I'm not so sure about DAZ making an SDK available to e-on. They'll prefer selling Bryce to not making any money from Vue. D|S - Bryce is a nice combo, I hear. And so is Poser-Vue. Less cheap, more powerful - you get what you pay for.

Over time I talk to a lot of people- but I don't KNOW anything for SURE! (heh) Vue's Poser import is an excellent way to go- at least for me, as I use Poser Pro-Pack and NEVER have a problem importing ANYTHING into Vue (I don't do dynamic hair, cloth or even animations- so its a Wonderful World for me as far a Poser imports are concerned.) But in the Bigger World of Marketing and Selling Software all the gimmicks come into play and whoever best controls the gimmicks gets people going THEIR WAY. Over time I think DAZ will establish their DAZ format since their software is FREE and it will be a handy UTILITY for anyone wanting to get M3, V3, Horses, Ducks, etc. stuff into MAX, Lightwave, Maya, c4D, ect. Curious Labs-E-Frontier doesn't sell MODELS- -they sell software (primarily). For DAZ, its the other way around- they sell models primarily. (Bryce is just a market to sell models into for DAZ- they aren't that driven like the original MetaTools-MetaCreations Kai Krause and Doc Musgrave crew- who were almost on a GROOVY 3D CRUSADE to make 3D Worlds for their Rock'n Roll audience, etc.) So Bryce is now largely a STAGNANT POND- almost no new water flowing into it. I hear DAZ is starting to think about Bryce 6- but that means it's probably about a YEAR AWAY at least. DAZ's main objective was just Bryce 5.5- means DAZ Model Imports... --Amyway, 3D software is largely all about business deals now and basically if the MASSES (public, etc.) are using the Free Daz Studio and are looking for another Low Cost 3D program -like Vue-Lite, it would be in E-ON's interest to have a DAZ Binary File import if DAZ is willing to give it to them (Poser Artist still uses the Stupid BUM files I think as well as Poser's bloated file format) Bottom Line- E-ON will move towards what best makes their software SELL. The low end buyers don't care about Software Politics and all the other BS that goes on in these Forums- they just want SOMETHING to HAPPEN (Results= Vicky with Ducks goes into Software that makes nice trees. Push Make Sunset button- Print on home color printer- tape picture onto refrigerator!) Love, Veritas

Yes, I'd imagine e-on would like to get their hands on a DAZ|Studio SDK. It would mean more e-on sales. But I still doubt DAZs willingness to give (or sell) an SDK to e-on. I wouldn't be surprised if the D|S development team were added to the Bryce development team - after all, DAZ is a business and they'll make more money if they can hook the D|S users onto Bryce. Not if D|S users go to Vue.
