kimariehere ( ) posted Tue, 27 September 2005 at 3:29 PM · edited Fri, 29 November 2024 at 11:35 PM

HAd the interview all went well..They want me to start on Thursday at one! I explained to them that I had allot to learn but have the eye ... he said i could eith go stringer or Intern/ stringer.. he said that if i was serious about going into it intern would be the best option .. wouldn't get paid much it would be more like college but could learn the ins and outs of the paper and photo journalism and do stringer work from time to time. I told him that it wasnt money as much as the oppertunity to learn ... so he said like three days a week like 1-6ish .. i would have to learn a MAC Which i know nothing about and the way the paper does things .. and helping with deadlines and organising photos and looking up stuff then going out in the field with the photgraphers and watching then eventually shooting!! Hey its a start even if i dont get payed much .i would learn allot and that is very exciting to me. they are getting new canons and i could use thier cams if i go out on a shoot!... yippeee..!! the words "SO can you come in on Thursday of this week"?? were VERY good words in my mind.,. yeah its a start!! HE said it was almost impossible to get into it anyother way and he liked the fact that i am a few steps ahead of the other interns that i understand composition and how to go out and shoot.. !! thanks for all your support on here..!! lol most of the other interns are like college age so i would be the old lady...( gets out the cane!! HAHA ) Still have to talk to Mike about it he might not like the fact that its not a money thing for now...and that dinner might not be ready for him 3 days a week ( the next hurdle lol) kimmers! :O)

kimmers ♥ :O)

I left a newspaper(advertising for small town with once in a while shots of hundreds of used cars and onece in a while a pretty lady)...to do what I do now. Never got into the photography part. I watch newspaper photogs with interest at events to see how they do things. At some "public interest" events for the social page, they know how to change a lens on the run! Congrats! Congrats! Hang in there and learn the ropes. All is certainly not gravy but gravy is there to even out the rough spots. Go for it lady. Be the best you can be and stay yourself as best can! I am so happy about this. Tom.

Congrats Kim :)

WAY TO GO, Kimmers!!!!!!! You'll have fun working at the newspaper!!! i loved it! i wasn't a photographer there though. :( i started out as a proofreader and typesetter, but my editor let me do a lot of other things because she saw i was a fast learner and was interested in doing all kinds of stuff. i ended up working for 2 newspapers and one publishing company and got a lot of experience, but sadly, i never got the photography experience there i wanted. i was always stuck in the office. :( if it works out, go for the internship!!! You'll learn a lot and have a blast!!! the newspaper business is a real high paced job which i loved. i would have stayed in the biz if it had paid more. if you're interested in getting experience as a portrait photographer, go for it! I would like to do that myself, but around here, they pay portrait photographers a really low wage compared to what i make in the restaurant and the doctors' office. maybe it's better in Calif. though. you have such a FANTASTIC personality, you would be so suited to work with kids, families, etc. and plus you've got the skill too. and in the newspaper field, i think you'd be perfect as well!! you're outgoing, energetic, and talented! Anyway, sorry for rambling on and on, but i'm SO happy for you!!!! Huge congrats, girl!!! :)
