THE PLACE FOR ALL THINGS BRYCE - GOT A PROBLEM? YOU'VE COME TO THE RIGHT PLACE

Subject: A Challenge - not deleted!

FranOnTheEdge ( ) posted Thu, 29 September 2005 at 3:34 PM ยท edited Sun, 26 January 2025 at 12:19 PM

Okay, so obviously some people are bored. So, how about trying to come up with some really interesting topics to discuss? All those who deleted their threads can try to come up with an interesting topic and the one who gets the most people to actually DO something - preferably something ARTY... wins. Bet you can't do it!

Ummm.

How about: Create a "Turneresque" picture (eg "Rain, Steam and Speed").

PS - the only times I've ever deleted my posts is after I've accidently posted twice..

Let's borrow a few ideas from the IGN vestibule: Rate the gallery of the user above you. Rate the user above you. Compliment the user above you. Flame the user above you. (maybe not) Post-a-random-GIF contest. Bryce an image about the user above you. See? There are TONS of things to do ...

Onlt time i delete my post is if i think that either no one will be interested in it and it was a waste of time posting it or i found the answer i was looking for... Watchout for the next deleted post by me..

I have opinions of my own -- strong opinions -- but I don't always agree with them.

CrazyDawg, How about just leaving the post? If no one's interested, then you'll soon know - but maybe someone will be? How do you know if you don't try? Point two, if you found out the answer, why not post that too? I'm sure others would appreciate that. I certainly would.

Diolma, Your Turneresque idea sounds just great, or variations on that - not sure I can make a steam train or such stuff. But I love Turner's stuff.

Has anyone ever tried to do a group contribution scene. One person starts off (you know something simple) and sends off the file to someone else who adds a little more. No rules, just your imagination. Add anything you want. The only rule I'd make is the next person may not delete anything the first person did. Oh, and maybe stay within a certain theme. If the file gets to large, I have an FTP site we could use for uploading and downloading.

I've done the group contribution thing in a photoshop circle but not with bryce because of the file size, would be interesting though, question I would need to know is are 5.5 file backwards compatible for those of us still on 5.0?

My 1/2 cent worth on challanges......... "Bryce" challenges are unfair that require extensive post work in photoshop to be able to compete. I can't afford that package, yet.

FranOnTheEdge ( ) posted Fri, 30 September 2005 at 1:53 PM

And I'm no good a postwork anyway, so I'll agree to that proviso, skiwillgee. Otherwise, bandolin, sounds like a great idea to me. I don't know if 5.5 scenes are B5 compatible... hang on. Woohooo! They ARE! I still have Bryce 5 on this laptop and I just went and opened a Scene I've been making in Bryce5.5, in Bryce 5!!! Hey, this is sounding goooooOD! Anyone else wanna join in?

Its an old idea, usually used as a writing exercise. Someone would start off a story, and pass it on. The story would grow, and take on a life of its own. When the people involved are of like mind it works out great. However, every-now-and-then you get an idiot who totally destroys the concept just 'cause he felt like it. Example: We once wrote a romantic scene based on a Waterhouse painting (you know the artist who paints beautiful medeival maidens in waiting). Well it was trudging along quite nicely, when some jerk sent a bunch of rampaging aliens through the cloister garden. I dropped out at that point. But hey, we can always make some rules like, no postwork, or someone will offer to do post once its finished. I'd be interested.

@ skiwillgee: PaintShopPro has almost the same versatility as photoshop, and is a lot cheaper :-) Version 8 (which is the last but one version) is pretty good (as I understand it - I don't actually have it), and you could probably get it for under $50 (maybe a lot under). I have version 9, which I got for $78 (I think - not sure). I bought it just before Adobe took it over. There's now a PaintShopPro X available at Adobe (or so I was informed in one of the forums here). Cheers, Diolma

I just realised that I didn't read Post #1 properly (I have a habit of doing that). I missed the bit about "topics to discuss", and automatically concluded it was a quest for challenges for renders. Silly me! However - as a subject to discuss: How to produce impressionist images in Bryce only (no post-work)? Be creative..:-)) Cheers, Diolma

danamo ( ) posted Fri, 30 September 2005 at 4:00 PM

Good grief Diolma! You had me going there! I felt like I was part of the cast in a bad episode of "Sliders". I just did a "reality check" web search, and where I come from PaintShopProX is a property of the much maligned (and hated) Corel corp. If I am in error, please let me know, and I'll try to find my way back to the trans-dimensional warp I came in on. ;-)

diolma ( ) posted Fri, 30 September 2005 at 4:54 PM

Sorry, danamo - probably a slip of the memory (that often happens to me). I thought it was Adobe who took it over. But you are probably be right. I can never keep these different providers straight in my head. Umm. Who produces Photoshop? Whoever it is, that's the company that I was informed had taken over PSP. Since I don't intend to spend $x00 on a a 2D app (like photoshop), I let the details slip out of my mind. I only have a few brain cells, and they need to be rationed carefully..:-) Extra (biological) memory can't be bought.. Sorry for the confusion, wasn't intended.. Cheers, Diolma (BTW - the reason that I saw in whatever thread it was that PSP had been taken over was a guess that PSP-X could become a "Photoshop-light" - taking out the opposition. True or not I have no idea.) Cheers, Diolma (Never to be taken as Gospel. Has human fralities in abundance..)

So, after that slight diversion in the Photo/Paint Shop realms... Who's up for the creative round robbin thing? Any ideas for a theme? Bandolin has an FTP site for passing the files around - thanks for that offer! If we get that far... Themes??

FranOnTheEdge I vote on any theme that includes water. Bryce has got oodles of pre=set waters but it takes real creativity to make it look natural (must exclude GaryandCatherine because his water terrains are beyound most human abilities) It could be anything from sea/undersea, nature scene, waterfalls, etc... but water must be a central issue. P.S. I'll try anything though if y'all promise not to laugh

FranOnTheEdge ( ) posted Sat, 01 October 2005 at 3:57 PM

I like water too, but I like underwater best, (mainly cos I'm not so good at water surfaces as I am underwater.) Not that I'm very good at anything. But sure, water's okay by me. (wondering what my old waterfall would look like to me now...Hmmm) Oh, and I promise not to laugh... if you promise not to laugh at mine!

You're on. What's the time limit? Who wants to join in? I guess we should post on gallery and notify here it's a done deal? AgentSmith, Zhann? FranOn... it's your idea: you set the ground rules

FranOnTheEdge ( ) posted Sat, 01 October 2005 at 6:00 PM

Time limit would depend on how many want to take part. If there are just a few of us, then a week each might mean we could get it done within a month. If there are more could we do each part in less than a week, to still keep within the month? Or do we want to leave the limit longer? Those who've shown an interest in this thread are: Diolma MoonGoat CrazyDawg Me Bandolin Gog_CA1 Skiwillgee Danamo Is everyone above intending to join in? And lastly - or perhaps most importantly - what do I say to Agent Smith or Zhann? Something like "Excuse me, we are doing this, watch our dust"? or should it be more along the lines of, "Please can we have permission to do this?" I don't know what the limitations are for something like this. Help?

I'm still up for it, any theme, as to time limit why not let person have a week with the scene, end of week you have to pass the file on and post a render (no postwork) to the gallery. I think it likely we'll need Bandolins ftp site to work with....

I have a suggestion but I can't participate, not enough time for me. You know silly thing called real world, kind of eats up a chunk of my time. But anyways here's my suggestion for what its worth. I find that waiting in these round robin things is fustrating. I suggest everyone involved starts a scene then passes it to the person on their left so to speak. Each week everyone is working on another piece of another scene. So if for instance there were four people. Four weeks later there would be four finished scenes. All based on the same theme but because each was worked on at different stages it would be fun to see how similar or different they turn out to be. ok thats my suggestion. :)

Gog ( ) posted Fri, 07 October 2005 at 4:37 AM

Ang, I've done exactly that style of round robin in other forums, although they called it chinese pictures, in this instant it was a 2d thing, but it was great fun and I'd be up for it, may take a little more organising, and we could consider multi groups - for example two groups of three

I also think that there should be a rule if done that way that no one could do the same thing in each picture they worked on. ie put the same model of a house in each pic. That way it would be assured of being completely different from the other pics. :) Wish I could participate sigh ps I like the idea of small groups. Keeps the images simple and done in a reasonable amount of time.

Yes, that sounds like a good idea, it would keep the individual's interest going as once you pass on a file you get the next one to play with - fun! No gaps that way. Everyone else like that idea?
