Did an image with a gem more than a year ago in Vue4. Try to achieve a similar effect with Poser 6 now, but have no real clue how to tweak the material editor. Any hints?

This is the Vue image. I did place some pointlights and clouds inside the gem. Don't know how to do clouds in Poser. How is volumetric material done in Poser 6 anyway.

Is there a variable node that correspondes to the angle between polygon and camera? Thanks for your help in advance!

The angle between the polygon and camera is the edge_blend.

Hey Walter, I'd start with the default "crystal ball" in glass materials. Refraction settings are messed up. Should split reflect and refract from 1.00 (0.600/0.400,0.500/0.500), but works. Scaling this whole thing up to 1000-10,000% might save you some heartache later on(artifacts). Search Ronstuff)Parent everything (cam, object, lights) to an invisible box, then scale the box to..whatever. IBl's might be handy. Max your rendersettings too. As many bounces as you can afford also. I admit, I'm rusty

After tweaking the material editor for a while, that's what I came up so far. Don't know how to make clouds in Poser6. Seems not possible to do volumetric objects. Also it seems not possible to make a glowing point light inside the gem. Seems I have to learn a lot more about this beast...

Now it is gettin interesting. Seems that clouds are possible. Not perfect yet, but I got the idea...

For anyone interested in the settings for my cloud. By the way, it is based on an elipsoid.
