Hi, I want to know what this book covers, does it have advanced techniques and tips on constructing models and jp's?

It is the "bible" for figure creation with Poser in my opinion. - Noel

Funny that you should mention that. I was just browsing through it last night.

Quote - ...is an in-depth guide that explains each aspect of the process of creating a figure in Curious Lab's Poser. It begins with simple projects such as cresting morphs for existing figures, and takes you through to the more advanced options, such as geometry swapping, joint parameters, the design of the mesh and how that will affect the working of your figure. Each section begins with the theory behind each step, giving an abstracted base knowledge of the task at hand. Practical sections for each chapter are included on the free CD in which the concepts are put to use in examples, code snippets and tutorials, with all the files you need to follow along yourself. The CD is also packed with numerous utility programs for you to use when creating your figures. Finally there is a trouble shooting guide for any problems and or bugs that may occur in each stage, so you are fully equipped to use this package professionally.

are there any reputable online stores that sell 2nd copies?

Can probably try Amazon.com. I got mine new from there, but they also sell used editions of books. That is the author's site, in case you want to look around and see her work. She also has a section there about the book.

I browse her book more often than I browse the darn Poser manuals! ;0)

"Secrets of Figure Creation with Poser 5" on Amazon

There is a used section (to the right), but ~$30 seems to be the lowest even there. The problem is that it has a CD and comes jam-packed with useful information. You'll be hard-pressed to find too many copies being practically given away. Best bet is to check eBay for a possible lucky snag.

C makes it easy to shoot yourself in the foot. C++ makes it harder, but when you do, you blow your whole leg off.

I looked for months on end, and never found one cheaper then amazon at all. I finally got it in with something else that gave me free shipping.

Way too many people take way too many things way too seriously.

If you're doing anything more than pose-and-render, this book is absolutely essential. In fact, it's the only Poser book worth buying in my opinion. Get it, I absolutely guarantee you won't regret it:)

rumour has it the poser6 version is in the works ... at which point I'd expect the p5 version to be cheaper. And I agree, if your doing ANYTHING more complicated with poser than just loading premade content you most definately want this book. It also has a small section in the index for mac users, shows alternate methods for setup than just the p5 setup room, and has a number of utilities, links and demo versions of useful stuff on the cover cd. IMHO the troubleshooting section should be renamed "what to do when your legs fall off" (plus 8 of my textures are in the gallery section grins) Lyrra

I purchased the book (the Amazon.com) and I think it's great. But, I also build models for use in Poser. :) The book can get very technical about how to edit figure files and such, so it may not be for beginners. --John
