Subject: "Frozen" morphs in Poser 6?

I save a scene and when I re-open it, the morphs on the face don't work anymore. I fiddle with the dials, and nothing happens. The expression on the face is not quite the same as when I saved it anyway. Also, after I work with Poser 6 for awhile, it won't really open my saved scenes. All I get is an empty square. It's a Victoria 3 character I'm working with. Why does this happen?

It might help to re-inject the morphs. I've found this is caused by external morphs. (PMD files.) If you set P6 so that it doesn't use external morphs, it's a lot more stable.

Ah, thanks. I also recently found some other posts on this topic -finally using the right search words, so the problem is known. I think I even tried re-injecting the morphs and it still didn't work. I lost 2 days work! I wondered what those darned PMD files were for - they are for screwing up your morphs is what!!

It's under Edit -> General Preferences -> Misc. Uncheck "use external binary morph targets."

This means the files are saved the same way they are in Poser 5 (which is good if you want to be able to use them in P5, or with an application that's P5-compatible but not yet P6-compatible, such as Vue).

The main drawback is that file is larger. Binary files are smaller than Poser's traditional text-based files. But hard drive space is cheap these days. :)

Talon...try copying the morph dial settings to a new figure. You can copy and paste them just like you would text. In fact, they are text, so you can save them in Notepad if you want.

You have to do the body and head morphs separately. If you're using Windows...select the body, highlight the top line of the parameter dials box (which is Other for V3), and hit Ctrl+C. Then select the body of the figure you want to copy the morphs to, highlight the top line, and hit Ctrl+V. The dial settings will be transferred. (This only works if the morphs exist in the new figure. It won't inject the morphs.)

If you paste them to Notepad instead of to another figure, you'll see that the morph dial settings are just plain text. You can save them as a text file to use later, if you want. Just copy the text from Notepad and paste it into the parameter dials box.

Thanks randym :o) Just out of interest, in theory would I be able to render more characters in a scene if they were binary or doesn't it make a difference?

I don't think it makes any difference. When the file is being used, it's just as big. It's only smaller when it's saved. Kinda like compressing files.
