Subject: 3DS to an Object compatible with VUE 5 EASEL

I recently upgraded to EASEL. It is certainly faster than the pervious version. I had VUE 4 SE, and have BRYCE 5.5, and VISTAPRO 4.2. I was clearing up my bedroom, and came across two CD-ROMSs full of 3DS objects, all with JPG or TGA maps. Is there any way to import them to EASEL, or is there any object converter program out there that I should use. Anyone got any suggestions? Thanks, John.

You should be able to import the 3ds into Vue Easel directly. That said, 3ds is not a firm and fast format; there are a lot of "versions" of the 3ds format, so be prepared for Easel (or other versions of Vue) to be unhappy with some of your 3ds objects. It also may not like tga maps; if you can convert those to jpg in Photoshop or another 2d program, you'd probably be better off.

Careful though: tga can contain alpha information that will be lost if converted to jpeg. If you open them in a paint program, and if they show transparency, better save them as .tif, Vue has no problem with this format ( as long as it is uncompressed.)
