4 SHRUNKEN HEADS. . . Hi, Folks! Only Madame Leveau, the Voodoo Queen, could appreciate the bitter irony of it all. Ill bet she was there, in the aftermath of the storm, laughing diabolically as she sat perched atop her tomb in the Saint Louis Cemetery, beyond the eyes of FEMA workers and CNN reporters. Millions of gallons of putrid water had poured into the streets, filling them up to the roofs of houses. The city had been plunged into darkness, save for the eerie light cast from buildings on fire. Amid the debris, lit by the fires, the heads of alligators, snakes, and rats could be seen, taking advantage of the new channel between the Lake and the River. Here and there could also be seen the bloated body of someone too poor or too proud to leave when the order to abandon the city went out. The grand eating places, the neighborhood bars that never closed, even the houses of sin were all empty. But the city itself was not. She could hear the voices of the miserable souls sloshing through the water or languishing on the rooftops, calling out to be saved from the ever-rising waters-- or from each other-- before the stifling heat, the relentless vermin, the deadly pestilence overwhelmed them. It was just like the old times, centuries ago. And, like in those old times, soon they would be coming back to her tomb-- black and white, rich and poor, simple folks and city leaders. They would seek her favor and intercession with the heathen gods of chaos who had been angrily awakened from their slumber. All of the images in the series were generated completely on a desktop computer. Positively creepy! :)

Thanks for all your comments, Acadia. Hey-- with a Login name like that, do you have some connections to Louisiana too?

You're welcome :) I really enjoy your daily images. As for Louisiana, other than having some friends in the region, I've never been there. I borrowed the name from a snippet of Canadian History.
