Subject: My bizland account has ben deleted!

Ladyfyre-graphics ( ) posted Thu, 08 March 2001 at 11:43 AM · edited Thu, 14 November 2024 at 10:40 AM

First of all I want to say sorry to anybody that may have been trying download my mew hair from the free stuff section, but for some reason when I just tried to open up my web site it has dissapeared, then when I ried to log on to the members area to find out what is going on the b******s have deleted my account! I have emailed then but still not recived any reply, and I can't find anything in the terms and conditions that say I can't link from here to my files as some sites do. This was the reason that I moved here from geocities. The only stuff on my site were html files, jpgs and zips for my free stuff. The only thing that I noticed is that they have introduced a bandwidth limit to threr free accounts and that I have had an awful lot of downloads of my freebies. If that is the case why the hell didn't they email me first so I could move to somewhere else? Sorry for ranting Alla PS I'm currently uploading my site to my free NTL webspace, although this will only be tempory as I think that it only allocates 5mb.

Don't mind the rant, I know the feeling well of getting a nasty surprise...like when they turned the power off on us here in California...lol It is so frustrating when they just dump everything without even a word of warning, and a lot of them are doing that these days. Marque

I just checked free stuff, and your new hair downloaded just fine. So something is still working. - Jim W

Alla, I should have said it the first time, but better late than never. I really like your hairstyle. It's your best one yet. And I don't mind your letting off a little steam, either. Everyone of us needs to know where the service is good, and where it is not. By the way, Posermail (www.posermail.com) seems to be offering 100mb of free online space for Poser users. Has anyone tried it? - Jim W

Alla, let off as much steam you want. You're among friends. And sometimes one just has to release or explode - not a pretty sight and very, very messy. What we have to realize is that most of these so-called "free" sites, such as GeoCities, Bizland, Tripod, Homestead, etc. are just email address vacuums. They offer these so-called free websites, get you to signup and require a verified email address. Why? They claim various reasons, but the main one is they can't sell unverified email addresses. They can tout their "privacy" policies all they wish, they're lying out of the side of their mouth. To test this theory, I setup a new AOL screen name several months ago. I went to no AOL boards, no Internet newsgroups or websites other than several of these "free" website services where I signed up for their "free" services. In other words, the only people who knew this name existed were these "free" website services and AOL. Now, say what you will about AOL, but they do have a rather strict philosophy regarding their users getting unsolicited and unwanted email. They do not jeopardize their subscriber base by spamming their users' email boxes if that subscriber tells them they do not want any "special" offers in their email box (via their Mail Controls)... AOL does that online with advertising. Anyway, after several months it started to trickle in. A few pieces of spam here and few pieces there. Now, after about 4-5 months, I average up to 12 pieces a day from people who had to have purchased my email address from one of these services. I have no doubt. Interestingly, not a single piece of all of this spam could be considered pornographic. So, I guess for that we should be thankful. Now, once your actual bandwidth use of their "free" service becomes a burden to them -- in other words, your site actually becomes popular or useful to others -- they consider you more expensive than necessary and shut you down. They still have your email address that they can still sell so they could care less. That is why they'll find some reason, any reason, to shut you down. And, eventually, they will get to anyone who uses too much bandwidth. Geesh, talk about ranting! But I've wanted to share my findings with others for a few days now and, I guess, your post just triggered the flood. Oh, well. Just a few rambling, incoherent words on another reason NOT to trust the corporate world (or anyone offering "free" websites). Take care.

I read the terms & two/three things caught my attention: NO Nudity - hello?? So I guess that means no skin texture previews?? G And they can also delete your account at any time, without notice, if they feel you have violated their guidelines in some fashion. I dunno - this may work for some ppl, but it could be a serious hurdle for others.

Oh - well - great - seems I was not the only one who got deleted. I think in my case it was the Vampirella-Poses which they didn't like ... you have my full "sorry feelings" for having had a site at Bizland Alla :o( . My account was deleted also without any notice or warning ... if Bizland think this is a good advertise for their service - they should go on practising with that ... in my case they succeded :-( . I would never give anyone ever the advice to use a Bizland account (You could also have a look at my website - I've given a statement to this point also ... If there weren't Steve, Allen and Rena - I wouldn't have known where to store all the poses I've made ... :o) Alla, I wish you more than good luck to find a new home - take care

Thanks for all the support everybody:) I've jyst signed up for the Posermail webspace (thanks for the heads up Jim) so I'll let everone know how that pans out. For now I'll be leaving my site at NTL (until I run out of space that is) as I had a nice supprise when I discovered that they don't put any banners or pop-ups on your site at all, and Paul(my fiancee) also 10mbs of free space with them which is going unused, so if they have no objection to me keeping the files on one account and the web pages on another I think I've got it cracked! I do think some kind of warning in the form of a message on the front page may be in order though as I have noticed that a lot of people with downloads in the freestuff section have their sites with Bizland, and they might not be as lucky as me - at least I had my site backed up on my harddrive. Schlabber - did they ever get in touch with you over deleting your site? I've still not heard a thing from them.
