Subject: Rivers

Hey everybody, I was trying to create a half-decent river, but I'm drawing some bad luck. What I've been doing so far consists of editing a terrain to have a river, ie: carving out a deep ditch. THe problem is twofold - 1. where the water plane meets the terrain looks to artificial and cut-off, and 2. it simply does not look very good. DOes anybody have a different, tried-tested-and-true method for rivers? - thanks, Zak

After carving your river you can apply a fluvial erosion to your terrain, double the size, fluvial erosion again, and hit diffusive erosion. Should look a lot better.

Also, you can edit your terrain material to have a darker, wetter look at and below the water's edge, if your banks have much of any elevation above the water - takes some tweaking to the "influence of altitude", "slope" and "blend" setting in an advanced material. And ecosystems allow for rocks/bebbles. I've found the terrain generator pebbles and gravel okay too.

Thanks guys... the fluvial erosion worked like a charm... Sadly, I don't have a working version of Infinite (as my demo expired), but I think I'll get by ;) -Zak

Now, another water problem arises - postworking waves. The scene file was corrupted, so the final render is all I got. Do you guys have any good tips for photoshopping waves? Thanks a bunch -Zaj
