THE PLACE FOR ALL THINGS BRYCE - GOT A PROBLEM? YOU'VE COME TO THE RIGHT PLACE

Subject: My first all Bryce robot WIP

Well, sometime back I left some images of my robot's legs that I was working on, well, now this is how far I have got. I am quite chuffed with this as it is my first real model of anything made totally in Bryce with no other persons bits and pieces. I would very much welcome any ideas or criticism that could make this good enough for the freebie section as I have had many a model/object/Material from there and would like to give instead of take for a change. Thankyou for both your input and my learning. Marc

So did you model this out of Drac's spare parts? Great looking machine!

Chuffed...I think it refers to a exhaling breath of (in this case) satisfaction. Something like that. AS

Yeah "chuffed" means he's feeling incredibly smug about this - deservedly so, I say. (wondering where the word originated from, exactly. Must be a derivative of something)

Wow, thanks girls and guys, I didnt expect that!... Its taken some time (just over a week and 9 crashes) and when putting all the pieces into place it did look something like a robot which surprised me!. I had basicaly 4 parts, legs (two different setups), bottom, middle and top. Leg 1, The Cutter= 179282 polys and 23.6MB Leg 2, The Grabber= 164500 polys and 27.8MB Top plate with aerials and lights= 5388 polys and 736KB Middle section with tools/gadgets = 20927 polys and 1.87MB Lower base with internal lights= 15012 polys and 1.87MB Total for a 4 legged levitating robot Obj file is 99.3MB!! On the lower base the internal lights (Light blue) shine from beneath, blue and red 'laser' light from the middle section which you can adjust the strength yourself. If there isnt anything else I can do to it, I shall try to upload it into the freebie section. Now, as this is going to be in the freebies when finished, I think I should upload in 5 parts as I'm not sure about the max size for models. My Obj file for the complete robot is 99.3MB and the max for single obj files in 5 parts is for the Grabber leg at 27.8MB. Any ideas for this please?? Anyway, thankyou again for your support and I'm 'chuffed' (Very pleased) ;) how its turned out. Marc

99Mb!!! wow.. it's 3 times more than my heaviest model!!! Nice robot by the way.. set it in full black color, and it will look like an "Empire" drone ;-p

marcfx ( ) posted Thu, 17 November 2005 at 8:42 AM

Thanks pidjy. I'm trying to use it in another scene and hopefully (without crashes again) I'll upload it later.....going to take some time do me thinks! LOL.

Sorry folks. For those who 'may' have wanted this robot model of mine cant. It seems that Renderosity doesnt allow uploads anymore unless you have a link to another website which I dont. Unless someone special would host it for me ;) If you would like it and have a programme called 'File splitter' i can send it via email.....would take about 3 emails for the body but, upto 14 files of 2MB for each leg because of the 27.8 MB size. If not just email me at marcfx@ntlworld.com and I'll see what i can do ;)

Nice model! just a little detail on the filesize and uploading... you did zip it before uploading it to somewhere right? the obj.. ' cause that can dramatically decrease filesize ;)

marcfx ( ) posted Thu, 17 November 2005 at 3:21 PM

@Rayraz Thankyou so much, I forgot all about zipping it!!! 99.3MB down to 8.97MB..even with all seperates zipped together so you can build your own is only 7.10MB.......VERY BIG DIFFERENCE!! Regarding the uploading. As I said above, I cant upload it on here because rendo have stopped allowing them, only a linked file can be and I have no webpage to do that.......unless some very kind person would allow it on their webpage for others to download. ;) Thanks again my friend :)

Actually, in my (almost) 5 years hanging around Renderosity, we haven't ever offered to host the freestuff items, there are just too many, lol! (Were at over 12,500 items now).

Send it to me, I'll put it in our Bryce Backroom for the forum dwellers to download.

Has to be under 10mb for the e-mail to go through.

Thanks AS, Its very kind of you. I do understand why rendo doesnt do it, it must clog up the lines a hell of a lot. I've even had a 'To many servers' screen up before and that was just to open my homepage here! Its on its way to you now. Thanks again my friend Marc

More than excellent for a first robot. It looks as if it was designed for underwater exploration. Would look great in a volumetric water render, with beams of light surrounding it ;-)
