Hi, all --

You might remember that I've been working on a feature film for about a year now. I posted some questions about modeling and texturing as I was working on a model of a San Francisco MUNI train. (Above you see a shot of the interior with one of our actors composited.)

Well, we're done with photography, and we're nearly done with post production (though we still have a mountain of sound work ahead of us). We cut together a teaser trailer to generate a little buzz about the movie. You can check it out at the link, here.

I should warn everyone that Pandemonium is a GAY Science Fiction Action Adventure. It's not much different from any other Science Fiction Action Adventure film with the exception that virtually all of the characters are gay. This particular teaser was designed to appeal to the "Queer as Folk" crowd, so it does feature shots of guys dancing together, nearly kissing, and waking up in bed together. If that offends you, DON'T GO TO THE LINK. If you're OK with that, by all means, please check it out.

It's about 30 seconds long and features 26 shots 15 of which use Carrara. The shots are quick, so you might want to download the Quicktime file and play it frame by frame with your arrow keys if you want to look in detail.

The Carrara shots include the train (there are two exteriors and one exterior shot in this teaser), all of the dance club interiors, the alley scenes and more. There's a mystical box that is featured in the movie, and sometimes it's a practical prop, sometimes it's a Carrara stand-in. Both versions of the box happen to be seen in this teaser.

I'd love to hear from folks about what you think about the teaser -- critiques about the Carrara work, as well as any comments about the teaser in general.

Thanks in advance!

Thanks for the warning. I find heterophobes very offensive.

It looks like fun! Fun to make and to watch. And good use of Carrara too! The teaser looks good, though the 'plasma'-thing on the figures (and the texture of the title) do look a tad more amateurish (maye some transparency or depth would help). Those effects (or showing them in the teaser) do not make it look like an international serious blockbuster. Which, I presume, is not exactly what you guys are making after all. The Carrara work looks great. Mainly because, if one did not know, one would not expect the background replacement or train to be digital. Especially the club looks great. Did you matchmove by hand? Good luck with the sound.

Thanks for the comments. I'm not entirely happy with the way the creatures from the other dimension look, but given our deadline and budget (zero), I'm willing to let these go. You're right -- we're not going for the international blockbuster look. Instead, something entertaining and fun to watch. So, I'm really glad to see your first couple sentences, Hoofdcommissaris. There was no matchmoving -- the tilt-down shot in the club was built as a large comp in AfterEffects and then just did a pan across the large comp in a 16:9 comp. Thanks again, and thanks for looking! -Dex

Cool! It looks like fun! I like the way the effects are integrated -- I wouldn't have even noticed the train and the nightclub if you hadn't pointed it out. Make sure you post release info; I for one would like to check it out when it's all edited together...
