Subject: Help please with reflections - what is causing this?

I've searched the tutorials here and at RuntimeDNA, and scanned both of the P6 Manuals to no avail.

I'm doing a picture that includes reflections from two dark surfaces - the reflections are where I want them, how I want them, except that they come out as though made of granite and not at all like skin.

I've attached a part of the pic to better explain the problem.

What is the reason for this, any ideas?

Merry Christmas everyone

Nic

Try adjusting the "Quality" value on the "Reflect" node (and maybe lower the shading rate).

If that doesn't help, post a screenshot of the Material room settings for the reflecting surfaces and your render settings.

And the render settings

I think it's something to do with the way the Firefly renderer renders bump/displacement in reflections. Try disconnecting the bump maps for the figure (say on just the foot), and try an area render by the foot to see if that fixes it. If so, disconnect the bump maps, unless you really need them and expect the pores to be seen in the final render.

Have you installed Service Release 2 yet? It fixes a number of problems with reflected bump maps.

I had uninstalled SR2 as it seemed to be causing me problems - however, I've now reintsalled it and the reflections are fine. SO thanks to you both. Merry Christmas Nic
