here was the thread.

Recalling the days when cable was new, and all HBO had were movies no one wanted to see, the New Buck Rodgers, and Battlestar Gallactica (with the mechs for cylons), this is prime material.
As a matter of fact, it rates up there with Deep Space Nine for it's plot and the dark - or - stark reality.
What I mean to say is that every episode is not a case point in a morality lesson, Just as in life, there are no true happy endings which allows each episode to flow into the next.
Though I seldom watch television, and can't get into watching soap Oprah's, I will have to agree with byAnton that the plot runs like a soap, where there are winner and losers, no real good guys or bad guys cops and robbers crap.
If I were to purposely spend money to purchase a television series to watch, this would be the one. And as a kid who could remember the pilot show for Star Trek the night it first aired (to hell with the Monkeys!) thats really saying allot about a Sci-Fi TV Program.

Yeah I'd just like to agree it ranks up there with B5. I was highly skeptical (to put it politely) When the rumors started leaking out about what they had in mind for the show before it came out. (Starbuck is a woman, The cylons are now hot sexaroid chicks... it kinda smacks of Terminator 3) But then I finally saw the pilot mini series I was very impressed. While the original series was a lighthearted (well as lighthearted as any show about badass robots exterminating humanity can be)Space opera, which had a COMPLETELY laughable lack of understanding of even the most fundamental science. (Like the difference between a star system and a Galaxy ^^) The New show is fairy hard SF. All the weapons are projectile based, and they make a real effort to show inertia in space. It also is pretty gritty and unflinching about the nastiness of war. (The season 2 finale in particular.) Anyway I love the original series, and also love the new one, for very different reasons. One feeds your inner child the other your... er... outer adult? ^^
I like the new Battlestar (which I wasn't sure I would). For the most part. There are certain elements of the storyline that just seem to be dragging and I would prefer they resolve certain things already. But overall I like the series. Personally I think they should just make a spinoff series called "Boomer!" :) Grace Park = Good
LoL They had to give Richard Hatch that part to appease him. He had been trying to resurrect Galactica for years and actually got in a bit of a legal skirmish with Glen Larson.
His version would have been a straight up sequel... Might have been interesting, in a fan filmish sort of way... Couldn't possibly be as bad as Galactica 1980.... (AKA That which must not be spoken of)

I read about that (he still wants to make such a series). I can't speak for any other Richard Hatches (we should throw ourselves a convention or something ;p ), but this one is happy they went the way they did. I wish him much success, but he'd have to find one hell of a lot of talented production personnel to pull it off oldschool style in today's hollywood.
Actually a few guys and a couple of copies of Lightwave could easily pull off the same level of effects today. and with less recycling :) Hatch had done a teaser with some of the original cast and some pretty decent CG effects... It had John Colicos (baltar) in it, I think he has died though since then. I'm a big fan of the original effects though. John Dykstra of Starwars was involved. A big part of their budget back then was also the AMAZINGLY ADVANCED computers that they used on galactica's bridge to draw all those nifty vector graphic radar displays. ^_^
