Subject: Looking for models

JeffAlberts ( ) posted Wed, 18 January 2006 at 7:31 PM · edited Fri, 26 July 2024 at 5:35 AM

Does anyone know of a good source for the following, either free or reasonably priced:

  • Container Ships
  • Modern Barges
  • Passenger trains/Elevated rail

i've searched a few sites, but haven't found anything except on Turbosquid, and they're WAY too expensive, even for low-poly stuff.

Thanks!

A nice cheap modern train .... http://www.vanishingpoint.biz/productdetail.asp?productID=90 A monorail.... http://www.vanishingpoint.biz/productdetail.asp?productID=56 monorail station... http://www.vanishingpoint.biz/productdetail.asp?productID=68 Not exactly cargo ships/barges, theres a freebie patrol boat which could play around at Content paradise and a simple rubber dingy in the Vanishing Point Freestuff.

Thanks MrSparky. I've seen all those. They won't quite fit what I need. The freight train set is very nice but I need something like a subway or El in Chicago.

kurokuma has a train, station landing, and subway entrance here in the Marketplace.

There's a very nice looking subway station at Max-Realms, and it free. :)

Also, Mystic Nights 3D Directory is a fantastic place to search for free stuff. "Monorail" and "Train" bring up quite a few hits. :)

Thanks folks, don't need the station, need the trains. For top down renders for mapping.

At the link supplied in post #5, there is a monorail which would probably do for you. It looks like a futuristic passenger train (well futuristic for here anyway :o) There is also a passenger train (in sections). All that is in 3ds format and is free. Look in Free 3ds Models - Transportation (pages 2-3-4). France

Some of those might work, the monorail won't. Thanks for the links and suggestions folks. Did find some tractor trailers at 3d Cafe. My biggest need is the barges and container ships.

Francemi ( ) posted Thu, 19 January 2006 at 12:37 AM

Do you have images of what you need? I don't know what a "modern" barge is and I'm not sure I know what a container ship is either. So even if I saw one of those somewhere, I wouldn't know that it is what you're looking for. ;o(

Hi there, Try looking at http://www.baument.com/ he has a pretty wide variety of models dealing with everything from transport to architecture. He sells some great sets and has really big freebie section. Regards Eshal

Thanks France. Eshal, that's a great site! unfortunately nothing like what I'm looking for. But i'm glad you pointed it out for other reasons ;)

How detailed does in need to be? Will it be in the backgound or do you plan renders onboard?

Container ship (no commercial use). Found via Google. Containers on a railcar here: http://www.geocities.jp/metalpeach/dll/dll.html Unless it needs to be really detailed, you might be able to get one of the mavens here to knock you out a free barge.

Well I am sorry to report I have looked at all my Poser related link pages and I found nothing interesting for you. Except for a few places where they sell their model for $300+ ;o(

Thanks LMckenzie. I'm not sure if the person I'm doing the renders for plans to use them commercially or not. I was going to try and do some of these in Vue with primitives and boolean operations, but I've never done much in that area before except to combine terrains to make lakes and such.

For a distant shot it looks like you could take a tanker hull and stick some boxes on deck along with a couple of sticks for booms :-)

So where can I find a tanker hull? lol

http://www.3dheaven.net/start.htm (under schiffe) http://www.planit3d.com/source/meshes_files/nautical01.html actually has a container ship also :-)
