Subject: Bondware3 forum changeover question

wyrwulf ( ) posted Sun, 22 January 2006 at 10:25 PM · edited Thu, 21 November 2024 at 6:39 AM

I have many links to forum threads saved in my Favorites. Will those links go 404 when the change occurs? If so, when will the forums change over, so I have time to save the pages. Thanks.

I'd love to keep those threads too!

I'm ONLY guessing here.

But, in my mind the answer would be yes, your links saved in your favorites would be 404. Which IS fixable...a little annoying yet fixable, lol.

I had links in my Favorites to Marketplace items which are now 404, but if I just change part of the url, it works again. For example;

Old MP link url;
http://market.renderosity.com/softgood.ez?ViewSoftgood=39953

New Link to the same MP page;
http://market.renderosity.com/mod/bcs/index.php?ViewProduct=39953

So, if I copy the difference;
/mod/bcs/index.php?ViewProduct

And, start pasting that into my saved urls, they'll work again. (it goes faster than you think) A pain yes, but especially in the case of saved urls to FORUM posts, its better than having to Search for those suckers all over again!

Like I said, this is a GUESS, I haven't heard any specifics, but I believe it might be a good guess. And, I'm also in the same boat as you with saved links to Forum posts, I'll have a bunch to correct myself. But, I also look forward to a MUCH better Forum to work with. ;o)

Note - I'm sure the Admins will be able to tell us more specifics about this as we get closer to doing it.

What about product updates? What are they now under? Thanks in advance, looks good so far...

Do you mean product updates in the MP? I'm not sure...try the MarketPlace Customer Support Forum, they can definitely point you in the right direction.

Yes. When products updated, as the look of the previous MarketPlace software. I think I found where they are. My Account, Item List. I didn't see it originally (so different looking). Nice that it has the update yes/no info. Just takes a little getting used to how items display. Thanks, AgentSmith! Have a great day!

I'm not taking any chances. I'm saving my RO bookmarks as pages on my hard drive as they are mostly links to threads where there is a tutorial or some other helpful information that I frequently refer to. At least this way I can refer back to the thread and if I want to add it back to my bookmarks, I can at least see what's in it so that I can more efficiently search for it. If the search function is going to be anything like it is now, it won't be that easy to relocate threads.

We can fix the directory paths in the URL pretty easily, but will the actual message numbers change? THAT would be disastrous! Way too many links saved since the startup for the whimpy-pooter to save as full pages. ACK!

AgentSmith ( ) posted Fri, 27 January 2006 at 1:29 PM

Again, myself I don't know, BUT...IF it follows suit with the MP, then no the numbers will not change. AS
