Subject: HR2 MAT files no longer work

Darkworld ( ) posted Thu, 26 January 2006 at 7:45 PM · edited Mon, 13 January 2025 at 2:55 AM

I'm posting this in the technical thread now because it's become extremely frustrating and is preventing me from working. Every hair prop I have (hr2 files) is stuck at the default MAT. No matter what hair, no matter what MAT or Fit pose i use, nothing changes. This is even when loading hair onto a figure with nothing else in the scene (no other props or figures). I can still load MAT files just fine for EVERYTHING but hair! lol... anyone know how I can fix this?

Which version of Poser is this? Here's a couple of random things I can think of to check :- When you add a hair prop, is it parented to the figure's head? (It should be by default.) Do MAT poses work for parented props? It sounds as though Poser is no longer passing information to parented items. As you know, normally poses don't apply to props; or to hair items, which are just a special case of a prop. However once they're parented to a figure, an applied pose really targets the figure, but information which doesn't have a corresponding receptor in the figure "overflows" onto the prop (or hair). It may be that Poser has thrown a wobbly and needs to be given the short, sharp reinstall treatment.

it kept happening if the figures i used were from PZ3 files. but if i use characters that i had saved as CR2 files, it works fine =/ weird, but at least there's a workaround finally.

Prop (or hair) files loaded onto figures are input as props . When these figures are saved, the prop is converted to an actor ie as part of the figure . The mat file can be coded to input to a figure (actor) or a prop . Mostly, it is coded for actors, in which case the 'prop' has to come from a CR2 file .
