I've stumbled upon this software on the web and thought I would share it... The software is named "Make Human"...

Cheers

I've come across this software before, but have never heard about anyone using it. Anyone here tried it out? Mak

I downloaded it as I'll try anything if it's free. What I've observed so far:

It opens a DOS window, and runs on top of that.

It isn't (yet) a substitute for DazStudio or Poser, as you can't pose the figure, only morph it. You get a figure in the arms-out standing straight position, and that's it (unless I've missed something).

The mesh is lower in polys than Poser etc., but appears to have been well-modelled with some attention to correct musculature, and morphing results are far more natural than Poser -- the morphs work more on muscle groups than simple body regions. The lower poly count might mean a rather angular silhouette in the final render, even with good smoothing.

The default figure is an androgynous human -- a guy from the waste up, but with female pudenda (and genital morphing!). You can change the gender to all female, albeit a bit skinny round the hips IMO.

You can export to OBJ, but not all of my OBJ-aware progs would recognise it. However Lithunwrap read it OK, and having UV'd and re-saved it from there in OBJ, the other progs were fine with it.

So -- as work in progress I'd say it has possibilities but there's a way to go yet, hopefully towards boning and posing.
