Poser - OFFICIAL F.A.Q (Last Updated: 2025 Feb 10 10:34 am)
If you're trying to install Zip files from here - or most other places, in fact - they usually have the correct paths embedded in the file structure. Unzip with the "Use Paths" function enabled and they should all be placed in the correct locations. You'll most probably have to point them to your Poser root folder first, though.

http://3dtrue.com/poser/14.html THe link above is to a free program I use to automatically place zipped files. It works for relatively new products - those for Poser 5 and 6 that have a "runtime". DAZ priducts install themselves in the correct places. This may be a useful program for you. It is important, I think, to know how to place the contents of your products yourself. This means getting to know the layout of the poser directory . . . getting to know what files go in which sorts of folders. If you just rely on the program above (Poser Porter) you won't learn this. There are tutorials that explain the ayout of the runtime - or read your manual. Maybe someone can post a link to the apporopriate Dr Geep tut on this subject. (He writes excellent tutoarials (tuts) that are frequently posted here. Read them! Finally, and most importantly, go slow and read the Read Me file that comes with your product or freebie. It will tell you where to post the files - and where they end up. Go to your Poser directory in Windows (if you are on a PC) and see where these folders are. . . those are my thoughts. Take what you like - leave the rest - and welcome to Poser. Tim
Files go in poser runtime, libraries then from there it's about what it is. obj goes in geometries cr2 files go in characters or figures pp2 files go in prop png are the picture thumbs you see pz2 files are poses fc2 are face files hr2 are hair files cm2 are camera files lt2 are lights I'm not sure I got em all but those are the basics I know fairly well. When I first started poser someone gave me a list similar to this and it helped me start to figure it out. So I thought I would return the same. I hope it helps you as much as it helped me :) Oh yes and the read me's really really don't lose those if you can help it lol. Retitle them if need be and make sure after each install you put em where they belong or you'll end up with tons of readme's all with different spelling variations of ReadMe. Like Tim said ;) Welcome to poser addiction!
Tried to edit, couldn't sooooo forgot, mt5 are material and pz3 are scenes like ready to render type dealies not in the libraries but in runtime is also your jpg wich are usually the texture files. Although both jpg and bum files that look like wire outlines those are templates for creating textures. whew
Yeah, tried to edit as well... weird.
I was going to add that make sure you check out the Free Items at
Content Paradise, if you have not already found it!
DAZ, which has several pages of Free Items and four figures in the Store at No Charge.
Sixus Poser Free Products Pages, lots of great items and links to great items (all Free.)
That should work...

You just can't put the words "Poserites" and "happy" in the same sentence - didn't you know that? LaurieA
