Vue F.A.Q (Last Updated: 2024 Dec 30 8:14 pm)
Good to know that the Obsolete error isn't a problem, but the textures certainly are. I've done a little experimenting and think I know what the problem might be. The file was created on a Mac then transfered to a PC. In the PC there are 8 of the textures that won't show up as thumbnails. Those particular texture cannot be opened by Photoshop CS either, which say it doesn't recognise the JPEG markers. The bizaar thing is that Photoshop Elements CAN open them. But even if I save them from there they still won't open in CS. Mmmmm... strange. I bet someone know here knows the answer. Thanks for the help, Mak
About the obsolete 3ds format, don't mind it, it's no problem, it just won't import shaders ( Cinema shaders, or any other apps' are particular to these apps and don't translate into Vue, same goes with Vue shaders, they don't translate in Cinema, which is why Vue creates bitmaps when you export an object). About your jpegs, if PS Elements opens them fine, why don't you try and save them as bmp or tiff, and see what happens?
Funny you should suggest that brunno021 as that's what I was thinking of doing but... I was wrong! Not all the jpegs will open in Elements so I'll probably just have to find replacements for them. There were no shaders used in the texturing, so I don't know what Vue was complaining about. But if it still imports, then it's fine with me. Thanks, Mak
Found the problem, and it was completely my fault! When I exported the model in C4D for a second time, it put a second lot of textures in and gave them bizaar file names. Similar, but slightly different to the originals. Once I got rid of those it was fine. Well, I say 'fine', I still have an awful lot to learn about importing models into Vue and what you should and should do when exporting 3DSs as there were some odd occurences. I'll look for tutorials... unless anyone can suggest one? Sorry for wasting your times, mam

Excuse these questions but I'm new to Vue (usually work in Cinema 4D) and can't find an answer to them in the Search. The first question is why, after making a model in Cinema 4D R9.1 (a Poser figure with our own costume)and exporting it as a 3DS file, Vue Infinite 5.09-02 tells me, when I'm importing it, that this type of 3DS is "obsolete". It does import... almost, as it then asks where the textures are and when I point it in the right place and select the Poser body JPEG, it first tells me that this is an unsupport JPEG and then freezes on me. I saw one other thread on the latter issue, but the answers didn't really help. Anyone know why it doesn't like my 3DS file? No one at the C4D forum does as yet. Thanks for your help, Mak
