Subject: Manual coming apart

grouch ( ) posted Sun, 05 March 2006 at 3:27 PM · edited Fri, 08 November 2024 at 1:03 PM

I'm new to Vue, but my manual is already coming apart. About 20 pages have fallen out so far. Does anyone know of an inexpensive way to get it rebound?

The manual did the same thing in Vue 5 and I hoped when I got Vue Infinite, they would have bound the manual differently...all my middle pages are falling out...really crappy binding whoever they gave the job to! I think we are just stuck with loose pages I'm afraid. :) Irene

Well, I guess misery loves company - glad I'm not the only one that this has happened to. (laughing) That said, I've since examined the pages and there's enough room to punch holes inthe pages and load them into a binder. Think I'll do that before I lose the loose pages. Since I'm a real newbie to Vue, I use the manual all the time. Nelia

You can get the pdf version of the manual for free from e-on's site. The link is on the same page as the updates.

thin down rubber cement a little... brush it on the binding and then just run the edge of the page in it... let dry a bit then stick together... just becareful how much you use... I'd play a bit with something first.

Thanks, Peggy! I already had the .pdf, but wanted to avoid printing out 600 pages of the manual on my printer. I like to read the manual away from the computer to get ideas, so reading on my desktop really won't work well. Thomllama - I may give your method a try. Thanks! If not, I'll punch holes and put the pages into a binder. Nelia

Mine started falling apart after the first three days.

The VUE 5 manual lost the index after a few uses, the VUE 4 manual is still in the box, so I can only assume it's OK. My first VUE 3 manual arrived loose leaved, the attempted glueless binding method had failed during transport, a phonecall to Paris was enough for a new manual within 3 days. That leaves the VUE 2 manual, it's looks foxed, buggered, batchered but never lost a page, guess that makes the VUE 2 manual the winner, with V4 as a non-runner :)

I took mine to Kinko's and had it spiral bound. It wasn't very expensive (under $15). Now it opens nice and flat and folds easily too. :) Well worth it.

Matrixmode, thanks! That's exactly what I was looking for, but just had no idea where to go. Kinko's makes sense, now that I think about it. Will give them a try.

I took Matrixmode's advice and drove over to Kinko's. Just picked up the finished product today. They did a great job. I had it coil bound, so that the manual now opens and lies flat. No chance of lost pages, either. It cost just under $12 to do - mostly because it's not a standard size and had to be cut apart. I took a couple of PDF manuals that I had previously printed and they were $6 each to be coil bound and have covers added. Be warned that they charge extra to take staples out, so do that ahead of time, if you've used them. This was well worth it to me to make the 40 mile round trip. Nelia

Hmmm... Wonder if I can get my brain spiral-bound (it's certainly coming apart, what's left of it...) Cheers, Diolma
