Subject: photoshop color settings - color management

Okay, I've not really had this problem before. I just got a new hard drive and did a clean installation. I finally found all of my software CDs and serial numbers and got my most important stuff reinstalled. But now I have a problem with Photoshop (CS2.)

I have tried changing the color settings to various profiles, but nothing is working. Whenever I have a photo optimized to the perfect settings and I choose save for web, the colors change DRASTICALLY from what I was seeing as I was editing (in my opinion.) It doesn't seem to matter what profile I use, the colors still change drastically when I use the save for web option.

How can I set the color settings so that the image I see during the editing process is the same one I see when I use save for web?

I've scoured through a bunch of the Photoshop books I have, but so far none of the scant information they had on color settings has been any help at all. :(

I don't know about you but first thing I do is turn mine off. I'm sure a lot of people disagree with that but it works for me.

Since web browsers aren't colour managed, you are bound to see changes when going from PS (where the application works out what colour the RGB values mean in the current colour space and uses your screen profile to work out which RGB values to send to the display to get that colour) and the browser (which sends the RGB values to the screen without worrying what they mean). You could either select View>Proof setup>Monitor RGB (PCS CS here, but I think the options are the sameish in PS CS2) to work with raw RGB all the time, or you could use Image>Mode>Convert to profile and select your monitor profile befor saving, if you have a decent profile for your display and want to keep the main image in the current working space for cross-system and output purposes.
