Subject: The merchant selling saga continues and I am getting fed up with it!

Today I checked out two really interesting products for sale in the Renderosity store. Once again the merchant did not supply a link to the product so it is difficult to find and to make matters worse the product does not even seem to exist anymore. I have sent a message to the creator of the original product which is required by the one that I am interested in to find out where the original might be purchased and I am getting fed up. Now SHOULD I AS A BUYER have to do all of this legwork - speak up ye merchants what sayest thou? PXP

It was not clear in my first post that what I am referring to is a link to a specific REQUIRED product for use with a product that I am interested in purchasing, Sorry. And I should also mention that one of these products is quite recent. PXP

Some provide a link and some do not. You are only hurting your own sales when you don't provide a link...

Bugs me as well. I have cut back on any spending in the MP since they still refuse to bring back the upload dates. Since I can't tell when it was uploaded, it's useless to me.

If the product your selling REQUIRES an additional product, common sense would tell you to; clearly list where to find it or provide a link to that product. I would think that if you were trying to sell something based on someone else's item, you'd want to give them an equal opportunity to make a profit as well. Especially since, if it wasn't for them you wouldn't have said product to create from. Now, if you've violated their copyright terms - that might be a reason not to provide the information. (Just a thought, not pointing fingers at anyone)

I'm sure some merchants arent comfortable with HTML enough to write the code that links off the required items. Some merchants also don't speak/write English well enough to be able to form a good ad copy. Not everybody thinks like a good advertiser should. I'm far from perfect myself.

They don't have to know code to write the link url in their ad. There have been quite a few items I would have gotten but I won't buy if I have to run all over trying to find the items. I agree with PXP but I don't bother complaining anymore, just get static when I do. I just don't buy now. Marque

Sometimes folks aren't too clear about required items for freestuff. It's an irritation. It certainly doesn't encourage me to spend money.

There are enough products in the RMP where it isn't clear from the name and thumbnail what the product even IS. If the merchant thinks I'm going to be intrigued by their obscurantism into looking at the product page, they are WRONG WRONG WRONG.

Just remember that there is a serious glitch in the numbering system at the moment for products too, some of the product numbers are linking to old products that no longer exist. That is not a merchant problem that is a problem with the new store software. I have alerted the management to this issue and they assured me it is being looked at. I'm not sure what direction you folks are going with this thread, but the answers here are all over the place, so I am not sure if the issue is with the thumbnail in the marketplace or with the thumbnails in the merchants review or in freestuff. You guys never keep these threads all in one track! Its hard to follow. Greetings from Germany, Antonio

Adding to the confusion is that fact that the product categories don't always return exactly what you're looking for. I don't know if this is an issue with the site or with merchants trying to "sneak something in". When click on Vicky 2, then Clothing, the results include V3 clothing, textures for V3 clothing, and sometimes V3 poses! I know merchants want to be creative with the names of their products, but a name like "Smooth Summer for V3" doesn't tell me if the product is a clothing object or a texture add-on pack. I have to click on the product and then hunt around for the fine print that says, "Requires XX's 'Sexy Dress Pack 2'". And then, of course, there's no mention of where the "Sexy Dress Pack 2" can be found. Also remember that I'm in the Vicky 2 Clothing category- why I am seeing V3 clothing? Why am I seeing textures for V3 clothing? --John

I have no idea what the template or process for creating an ad is like but it seems that they should have a simple process for listing/linking to required products. Daz ads have a "View required products:" section. That would seem to be a simple and basic requirement for a store. If after all the upheaval and redesign they don't have something like that then IMO, it is more a shortcoming of their design than the merchants.

Daz's site is pretty straight forward about what additional items are required for their prodicts. Its so much nicer to look at Product B and see that it requires Product A to work.

Antonio - Ok. When you see a new merchant product page on Rosity and you decide to look at that product you will almost certainly be clicking on the 'image' samples, of which there are normally three, to decide if this product is for you or not. If the product has been properly labeled it will tell you whether or not you need a required product for it. It's at this stage that might be given the product's name and thats all, you are expected to know what it is and where it is to be found. If there isn't a link to click on that will take you directly to that 'required' product page to buy that specific product then you give up on it. Simplying saying that this item requires such and such by such and such is not enough. You have to be very specific and helpful. Part of a website address or site name is not enough because when you get to the site, assuming you do, you are probably going to be looking for the product there too. Its frustrating and time consuming and is very unfair to the buyer to have to do this.

Look, PXP, You've made your point. Items should have links to required items. Period. Do you really honestly need to clutter up the forum with a dozen threads about it? We get it! You're pissed off. So Don't buy the items that don't behave the way you expect them to with proper linkages. End of story! Can we please get on with the regular business of being helpful here?

PXP: Have you considered posting a more politely toned version of this to the merchants' forum? Some of them may not know how much of an obstacle this is to selling their products, and if you are nice about it, they will probably appreciate the feedback/advice. After all, it is truly to their advantage to implement such suggestions as you have put forth here.
