Poser Python Scripting F.A.Q (Last Updated: 2024 Dec 02 3:16 pm)

We now have a ProPack Section in the Poser FreeStuff.
Check out the new Poser Python Wish List thread. If you have an idea for a script, jot it down and maybe someone can write it. If you're looking to write a script, check out this thread for useful suggestions.

Also, check out the official Python site for interpreters, sample code, applications, cool links and debuggers. This is THE central site for Python.

You can now attach text files to your posts to pass around scripts. Just attach the script as a txt file like you would a jpg or gif. Since the forum will use a random name for the file in the link, you should give instructions on what the file name should be and where to install it. Its a good idea to usually put that info right in the script file as well.

Subject: Can I quickly change all materials to a single material and back again?

I regularly use Olivier's "ART MATERIALS vol.1: Cartoon Shaders". I work primarily in the black and white. Most often, I set every material on every object in a scene to the same Black and White material, then go through tweaking certain ones. Needless-to-say, going through each surface and setting it to the same material is very tedious. Is there a way to do this quickly with a python script? If would be even better if I could also set every material to some solid color while I am posing, then switch back to the shaders, as everything in the preview looks black while you are working. (I've tried working with wireframes for posing, but this is tough when you are working through walls you have made invisible.) Any advice or assistance you can provide is greatly appreciated! Thanks, HL

Dimension3D has a python script for material copying in his freestuff. If you really want it to apply all materials, you can do this by right clicking... Select all, Copy, Apply to all and then shift-click the "Remove detached Nodes" wacro to clean up the materials...
