Subject: YOU FUCKING UNGRATEFUL BASTARDS!!!!

x2000 ( ) posted Sat, 25 March 2006 at 8:18 AM · edited Sat, 25 March 2006 at 8:25 AM

Thanks again for all the kind words:)

Btw, everything is back up here now with the new links. And so far, no more nasty messages since I posted this, so maybe it did some good? You know, it's funny, it's taken days to get them all changed and approved/posted, five or so a day, but yesterday was the only day I received anything like that, and there were several. But hopefully, it will remain the only day...

My son has been through hell. Nothing really tragic like cancer or anything, but still a lot of misery. Since he started kindergarten in September, he's been sick pretty much constantly, catching every damned cold and flu that's passed through his class. Last month he even ended up with full blown pneumonia, a really bad case of it. He had to have IV antibiotics for days, lots of needles. Then the antibiotics caused an intestinal infection that caused him even more misery than the damned pneumonia, I mean screaming agony, vomiting, diarrhea... Then a week or so later, he got it AGAIN, due to antibiotics he was taken for something else! (Strong antibiotics wreak havok on your digestive system, killing good bacteria) Now we've gotten him over that again, he was finally feeling good again for a couple days, when BAM, he caught a bad cold again yesterday. The poor kid would be lost if he wasn't taking some kind of medicine every day. lol His immune system must be begging for mercy. Oh yeah, and he had to have his adenoids removed a few months ago, too.

And on top of all that, we found out he has a fairly bad case of scoliosis, which essentially means his spine is curved in bad ways. A few days before Christmas he had to start wearing a rather uncomfortable brace that covers most of his torso. He has to wear it pretty much 24 hours a day, and he'll possibly need it until he's in his late teens. He's dealing with it well, but it still breaks my heart.

So the boy hasn't really even been up to just running around the yard or playing in the snow or just things like that. He's really had a rough time, and had to face the new adventure of school through it all.

So if I lose my temper with assholes like these, I think you can understand why.

Edited for typos and sentences that weren't quite English.

OK green fella...step AWAY from the destructo-ray ;) Sorry to hear about all your problems mate...but I don't think it would have taken me that much to get pissed off with the assholes who love to snipe at people. I'd have beat up on them anyway. Here's hoping your son is on the road to recovery, and may the fleas of a thousand camels infest the armpits of those who sent the bitchy emails to you.

Elizabyte - I met my husband online as well .. we met face to face a month later .. and a month after that we were married. Its been 3 years so far and we have a 2 yr old daughter. What I was referring to with my "nothing that happens online means anything" comment - was the fact that people get sooooooo bent out of shape but stuff said by people they don't know and will probably never meet. Thats why I don't take anything that happens on the world wide weird seriously.

Just enjoying the Vue. :0)

It seems to me that you mentioned your server problems a while back. Anyone who cannot sympathize with your predicament doesn't deserve to benefit from your considerable talents and generosity. Too bad you can't block them from getting the items.

I think most of us here know you were a victim of circumstances, and understood what had been going on. Keep up the good work and thank you for so many really nice items. Don't let the ignorant, ungrateful trolls get you down.Unfortunately, some idiots don't appreciate anything. Hoping for a speedy and complete recovery for your son, as well. That has got to be difficult for you.

Well since I am not a FUB I knew he wasn't lashing out or talking to me, which I am sure most folks knew too. Hope those that are FUB's got the message. Any one that helps, offers free stuff, or has been around for awhile knows what X2000 was feeling. Usually you keep that stuff in your head unless certain conditions force it out. My puritan up bringing usually keeps my temper publically checked. Actually even though I am so sorry for your trouble X2000, I glad to see I am not the only that has that FUB feeling at times. Son is a real cutie! Hope they get his health problems concerns taken care of ASAP! Know the feeling when we are worried about our children. Sending that bright healing light and blessings to your family. :-)

Thanks for the heads-up, Xantor. But I tried several items I'm not getting the same message as in your IM, though. Which file did you try to download? The screen grab shows what I get. Which is different from how it worked before, but no biggie. You don't actually have to join the site, just type in the code to verify your not using some sort of mass download software or something I guess.

But maybe there's something different about the file you tried to download? Or maybe Jerry was in the process of making changes at the time and the message you received was only temporary? I don't know yet, this is news to me. Before, once you clicked your download just started, no pages came up. But maybe someone was abusing the privilege and Jerry had to put a protective measure in?

All the files come up with the downloads zip, I tried 5 or 6 different ones and it happened with them all. If I go to 2thextreme I can download the files normally. I thought that it might be a cookie problem but that is unlikely, here is the message in the zip in full: Hi. I suppose you want to know what the hell is going on. Here's the scoop. The site you downloaded this file from is not authorized to link to the file you requested. You can download the intended file from our real site at http://www.2thextreme.org/modules.php?name=Downloads The best part of our downloads, you dont need to register to download them, and you are getting the files from the original source so you can be assured the files are legitimate and current. Sorry for the inconvenience, but I dont believe I should pay for traffic that I do not see when people hotlink our files from their server. Feel free to drop by our site and enjoy yourself. What browser are you using? Maybe that has something to do with it? I'm afraid I'm not that knowledgable about these things, I'm just a modeler;) I suggest you IM Jerry and see what he has to say.

xantor ( ) posted Sun, 26 March 2006 at 10:25 AM

I tried clearing out the cookies from internet explorer and it seemed to fix it, but after I logged into 2thextreme the same thing happened again.

xantor ( ) posted Sun, 26 March 2006 at 10:28 AM

I sent MGCJerry an IM about this.

x2000 ( ) posted Sun, 26 March 2006 at 10:35 AM · edited Sun, 26 March 2006 at 10:36 AM

Cool. Unfortunately, I can't seem to reproduce the problem here. I'm using IE6 myself, so if it's not a browser issue, I have no idea. I'm not even logged it at 2thextreme right now, so that's not an issue. I can't figure out why it works for me and not for you. Hopefully, Jerry will have more luck:)

Please let me know how it turns out.

MGCJerry ( ) posted Sun, 26 March 2006 at 12:31 PM · edited Sun, 26 March 2006 at 12:39 PM

Thanks for the heads up...

Heres the thing with downloading items and getting a download.zip file instead.

If you are registered on my site, and try to use the links in the freestuff section here you will get the "download.zip" file. This is because that registered users bypass the "password check", and get served the file. And since rosity is not an authorized referer, the hotlink protection takes effect and serves "download.zip" instead. Also "Referer blocking" settings in your browser/ ad killer will also result in getting the "download.zip" file

This only applies to people who've registered on my site, and continue downloading items from the rosity freestuff.

Since I will NOT allow rosity "direct linking", those that are registered will encounter this. If I allow "direct linking" for rosity, it will allow people to post the file link around the forums and fetching the file directly (bandwidth theft). I want people to see my site to get the files. Sorry, but because of bullshit I've had in the past, this practice will not change.

Heres a couple workarounds through.

  • Browse the download section on my site and get them that way.
  • Logout on my site, then click the links in freestuff here.
  • Forge your HTTP headers to make it seem like its coming from 2thextreme.org HOWEVER altering HTTP headers incorrectly may result getting an error. ALSO because of my site's in-house coded security system, it may detect problem headers that match a specific pattern as an attack and deal with them.

This should help you guys out. BTW, at time of post I used 7.6GB of bandwidth and I have a max of 8GB month. Dont worry, I'll take care of this. :)

Ok... Time expired to edit post... So I gotta do a new reply...

Now that I've had a moment to read this whole post...
Get over it people. Dont bitch at the wrong people for the way rosity handles their download system though itd be an easy MySQL query edit to make them show up in the order they were submitted.

Anyway, I've done some math so lets take a look at something... x2000 has 80.4 MB of files uploaded which he did via FTP. I know it took him a loooong time to do so. How long? Let's put it into perspective...

*56K is actually limited to a MAX of 53K per FCC

  • 53K dialup never hits maximum throughput with TCP/IP overhead, line noise, signal strenth, server utilization, connection saturation, etc... Uusual connects based on times and such varies from 14K up to 48K.
  • TCP/IP overhead kicks in now on the connection, and depending on line you get an ACTUAL speed of approx 3.78 KB/sec (with fluctuations) download rate (going at 31kpbs)
  • Upload speed is horrendous. 1-3KB/sec. Lets go with an upload rate of 2KB/sec (16,384bps which is fine for dialup).
  • Lets do the math. Total size of downloads (80.4MB = 643,200,000 bits) * Going at the rate 16384bps... 39,257.8125 seconds to transfer that 640 million bits.
  • Basic math skills needed to convert 39,257 seconds into hours. ~10.9 hours.

Of course I dont feel it took him 10 hours of total uploading, I still feel it was on the scale of 6-8 hours since it seemed he did have a good upstream which I'm sure hes thankful for.

For those that dont know where I got these numbers at, consult google for the numbers... 1KB = 1024bytes, 1byte=8 bits (internet speed measured in bits since it sounds faster)

The sad thing is that although I now remember a post mentioning server problems, until I read this thread I had it in my mind that x2000 was updating and adding new models. I was amazed at his prolific output! No I find it's just a computer glitch based on 'rosity's code's inadequacies. I'm still awed by his generosity but instead of a God he's now just a demi-god. Content Advisory! This message contains profanity

As a (free) game mods designer I can feel your pain.

Couple years back I made a free add-on editor for a game called Operation Flashpoint.
Some German company decided to make a mission expansion pack (read commerical)
and used my editor to do so when I had placed a for NON-COMMERICAL use what so ever clause in the readme and legal texts.

I contacted them and until I threatened to sue and had Codemasters backing me up did they say they would cough up a measly 1% royalties.

I got one check, then suddenly their phone number and fax machine were
disconnected. Being in the US there was not a whole lot I could do about it.

To make matters worse people started saying I sold out and yadda yadda yadda even
though the editor was still available for free!
