Subject: Animation and Ecosystems

Hi. Of course, if I create an ecosystem, and then populate and move the terrain, the trees move with the ecosystem. But I notice that when I place an ecosystem on a terrian, and populate it, I can not then move that object in an animation, since the trees don't follow the terrain. Is there a way to make this work? What I want to do is have an island (with it's ecosystem) rise out of the sea.

Hi Regaltwo I did a quick couple of animation test and had no problems with adding an EcoSystem to a plane and terrain and then tilting, raising/lowering etc. (Maybe I didn't understand your scene correctly - if so my apologies) Are you using the (current) latest 5.09 patch? Finally - a little known option - an icon that is used to ignore a object when populating an EcoSystem (see attached) if this might help? Kind regards

Thanks for the response, Trelawnly. Did you set (in your animation) the terrian to rise or lower in the final keyframe. What I want is to have the island underwater and unseen in the 1st frame of the animation, and slowly rise as the animation progresses, until it's fully on the surface in the last frame. Unfortunately, the trees are not moving with the terrian. I'm pretty sure I have the latest update.

Hi Regaltwo You're welcome! Yes - in that example above - the terrain (+Eco) starts underwater (pre-populated), rises up, then tilts around the camera ending at that angle. I didn't have anything else on the terrain except the Eco, however I didn' attempt to Edit the Eco after the starting timeframe where I first populated. The only thing I can suggest is to perhaps try a very simple example such as this to see if you can reproduce the problem, let us and Tech Support know the steps if you run into it. If not - then try resetting the EcoSystem back at the initial Frame, populate underwater as I did but making sure that you select any other planes (like ground and water) and check the "Ignore for Ecos" option on them. Good luck!

I uploaded my quick animation test to YouSendIt.com The above link should last for a few days and set number of downloads, but just to see if this is similar to what you were trying to do? Kind regards

Thanks. I finally figured out what I was doing wrong. After populating the ecosystem terrian and another ecosystemed object, I had grouped them to make moving them together easier and more consistant. But apparently that's a no no :) So I ungrouped, moved them individually, and it worked fine. Thanks again.

Hi Regaltwo I'm glad that helped and you found the right solution. Another tip might be to select the objects, then select "Link To" and select the Terrain with EcoSystem. I tried this with a variation of the above, plus a castle model. Then the castle did everything the terrain did. All the best
