Subject: Just bought CarraraPro, need help with Version.

I feel slow/old age on this one. I bought pro and it says 5.0.1. Do I need any other updates or just install the 5.0.5 update. You would think that I would have gotten the updated version when I just bought a DL version. So I'm not sure about the big jump. There is also a 5.0.4 upgrade. Do I need to install that first then the new one. So you can see I am very new to Carrara. Thanks for any help.

Firstly, it's normal practice it seems for upgrades not to be included when you buy a programme. You only have to download the 5.0.5 and install it--it includes all the previous upgrades. I am 73 and just learned to switch on a computer 3 and a half years ago. I am sure you will enjoy Carrara just as much as I do-- great programme, great team who make it and continually help, and great helpful people on these various forums. ps. A new update 5.1.0 due in a couple of weeks great improvements on it.

OK, thanks. I'm almost 50, same deal as you, started in 2001, first time when I touched a computer. It's just Carrara I'm new to. Upgrades not included, true, I wasn't thinking. With the jump in numbers, I thought I might have missed something. Thanks again, will have some questions another time. Right now I'll head to the back room and check out some beginner tuts. I went Carrara/Hex way because of how simular it is to Poser, Shade and Wings.

I find Carrara and Hexagon far, far easier to work with than Poser (or Wings)I started with Poser and now only use it as a recource for Carrara--and Poser6 I think was a real let down. How someone can actually use some of the apps, even the very top ones (even Amapi) beats me. They all seem so difficult and messy compared to Car and Hex.

well, bwtr, the top of the line apps (3ds Max and Maya) have things that simply cannont be done in carrara and are a required for some tasks regardless of how user ferindly they are. (ever try to make a matt in Carrara?)

Now, I love block modeling with Wings. I love the spline and curve modeling with Shade. That's why after trying the Carrara and Hex demos, I bought. Carrara interface is like having the best of all the apps I have put into one package. I find P6 much better than P5, though I think it should have been named P5.5. And yes, I will upgrade to P7 when it comes out. Off to try to find some simple tutorials that work with this verion of Carrara. Most I have found, which are not many, are for older versions and don't seem to mean much. That, or they don't explain the steps well, kind of skip though it. Which prove no matter how good you are and how fantastic the things you can do with an app. Dosen't mean you can create a well writen tutorial. LOL
