THE PLACE FOR ALL THINGS BRYCE - GOT A PROBLEM? YOU'VE COME TO THE RIGHT PLACE

Subject: The End is Nigh.

One more day to go with the ancient Rendo forum. I've remembered something else about the interface I like and take for granted - the user defineable appearance.

My long-standing setup (above) is designed for maximum viewing accuracy, somewhat along the lines of laCie monitors. The low contrast is also good for reading lots of text.

Will the new PHP thing have a user definable appearance? Judging by the store experience my guess would be 'not'.

Of course, anything can be abused...

There'll probably be a drop-down list to select between various colour themes in your profile.

That's usually the case with the PHP based forums, though I don't know how 'unique' Rosity's new effort is gonna be, AgentSmith refused to hand me the keys for a test-drive.

And, if I may intrude, I would also like to know something regarding the cosmetics:

What is the default size (in pixels and file size) of the banners we can have in our signatures? I'm sat here right now, wanting to prepare some ;-)

"Will the new PHP thing have a user definable appearance? Judging by the store experience my guess would be 'not'" Well, i dont know if it'll be implemented, but let me tell ya, it's absolutely 100% possible to program that in php. Actually, it would be a piece of cake to program such a feature :) so lets hope it'll be in there in the php forums!

SWEET screenshot, PJF, lol... I'm tempted to post a screen shot of the new php forums...but, I'm sure I would get flogged over that... Now, with the Market Place, Bondware wanted to keep a unity in appearance with all viewers, so the MP has its own colors with no customization possible. It's not just because it was switched over to PHP. I am (strongly) assuming we will have color options for the rest of Renderosity (forums, galleries, etc), even after each other area goes to PHP. What I do NOT know, if we will have that option right at the opening of the new PHP Forums. The site programmers seem to like to keep things nice and simple at the start. Makes their jobs way easier. Pumeco - I have not heard anything about BANNERS in our signatures. So far I see a place for TEXT in the signature. And, we have been told we will avatars. Anything else...we will see as it comes. *Most importantly to kinda reiterate; I would bet the new forums at the start, will be basic, and then as the site programmers see everything is going well, options modules will be dropped in, building it all up. Cheers AS.

But hey, text in the signature will probably allow for banners using code (linking to an image) instead of just text.

I'm quite pleased to hear they've gone the basic and simplistic route though. It's refreshing to know there's some designers understand the "less is more" design philosophy. I mean I love gadgets and buttons, but where forum design is concerned, I HATE clutter.

lol. For safetyreasons I think you'd rather have they do know that strip_tags() function. Regardless of allowing signature banners or not :) (unless u want to hack the forum to make everyone's banner a PRO-RENDER advertizement :-P in that case u might want to hope they dont know that function)

Wouldn't a linked image eventually just turn into a little red x, like all linked images do? AS

lol yea it most likely would :-P eventually... though in some cases that can take years ;-) hmm... soo tempting to start a new user account, paste a really irritating flashy er-headache banner, spam the entire forum and host the image for the next 10 years.

LOL - Who said anything 'bout promoting PRO-RENDER :-)
(She's dead and buried).

And anyway, signature code needn't be a security risc.
Look at DAZ's forum, they allow their own unique code for such things to prevent hacking.

(PR = DEAD)
(Now THAT has gotta be a banner that would generate a cult-following)

Oh yea there's other places that u could insert harmfull code though ;-) But indeed, there's lots more u can do to customize your own protective code. String replace functions, regular expressions, that kinda stuff.

"...though in some cases that can take years ;-)" Heh, all my linked images on Rendo still work. I've posted linked images on forums that have died and been reborn three times and still my images are there (with no one looking at them). This is indicative of my never having attended my webspace, other than pay for it.

Postponed until tomorrow. The server grew AI, grabbed an axe and starting hacking up Renderosity site programmers. We had to nuke the site from orbit. Just to be sure. AS
